With the new CBPS series, the Zimmer Group is introducing compact clamping and braking elements for pneumatic cylinders. The series combines secure holding with a controlled braking function, thereby helping to safeguard machines and systems in the event of pressure drops, stops, or malfunctions.

The Zimmer Group is expanding its portfolio with the new CBPS series. These compact clamping and braking elements for pneumatic cylinders enable the safe clamping, holding, and controlled braking of piston rods. They thus offer an additional safety benefit for applications involving vertical or moving loads.

Unlike conventional clamping elements, which often perform only static holding tasks, the CBPS series features an integrated braking function. In the event of a pressure drop, a machine stop, or a malfunction, movements can thus be braked in a controlled manner and loads held securely. The holding force is at least twice the force of the pneumatic cylinder used.

The elements, which can be mounted directly onto standard cylinders in accordance with ISO 15552 as well as compact cylinders in accordance with ISO 21287, feature standardized interfaces and a compact design. This allows them to be integrated into new and existing machine designs without extensive modifications. Sensors for detecting the “clamp open” and “clamp closed” states also enable easy connection to the machine control system.

The CBPS series is designed for a long service life in industrial applications. It can withstand up to five million static clamping cycles and up to 2,000 dynamic braking cycles. Safety certification in accordance with DIN EN ISO 13849-1/-2 enables use in safety-critical applications.

The series is designed for operating pressures of 4.0 bar or higher and is suitable for industrial environments with temperatures ranging from -10 °C to +70 °C. An integrated wiper protects against contamination. Thanks to its compact design, easy integration, and the combination of braking and holding functions, the CBPS series helps machine and plant manufacturers increase process and machine safety.
