Hinges
More durable and versatile options
With over twice the lifespan and new installation options, Southco is setting new standards with its ST hinge series.
ST constant friction hinges are compact, robust and have high friction, allowing users to easily position flaps and covers regardless of their weight. The available sizes and friction values allow for flexible adaptation to a variety of designs ranging from the smallest webcams and consumer electronics devices to portable computer screens, LCD displays, point of sale terminals, medical devices and access panels for larger enclosures. The new models in this series - ST-7A2 and ST-10A2 - offer the same versatility, robustness and ergonomics as their predecessors, but with a significantly longer lifespan.
While friction hinges are great for improving the usability of a product, they have had one inherent limitation until now: increased wear on the internal mechanism. Because the mechanism takes some of the load off the user, it naturally wears down over time and loses some of the friction that makes it so attractive. Over time and with frequent use, the strength of the mechanism can diminish, making a friction hinge feel similar to a regular hinge. The ST-7A2 and ST-10A2 models solve this problem with an improved internal mechanism. This upgrade significantly increases the life of the hinge, allowing it to perform flawlessly throughout the life of an application.
Versatility is another strength of ST Constant Friction Hinges, which is further enhanced by the two new models. New installation options are now available in the form of a more robust adapter for higher loads and a wire offset adapter for more freedom in the design phase. These additions make it easier to incorporate ST Constant Friction Hinges into a wide variety of designs.
One of the main benefits of ST Constant Fiction Hinges is the ergonomic improvement they enable. When engineers design for the future, they look for every opportunity to improve the safety and usability of their equipment. Friction hinges allow for smooth movement and help the user position equipment exactly where they want it. With gravity eliminated as a factor, the user knows the exact position of all the flaps and equipment they are moving at all times. It also reduces the risk of injury from accidental flap slamming. The ST-7A2 and ST-10A2 models improve the user experience and increase safety for the designs of the future.
