Bellows
Machine Protection for New Manufacturing Processes
When it comes to bellows, nothing is impossible. Hema equips even systems using newer manufacturing technologies with its proven machine protection. One of these is industrial 3D printing.
As a relatively new manufacturing process, industrial 3D printing is becoming increasingly established. Whether for prototypes, pre-production runs, or small-batch production—the range of applications is enormous. As one of the leading providers of machine protection solutions, Hema manufactures specific bellows solutions that meet the temperature requirements of 3D printing. The design and engineering tailored to the specific application are crucial in this regard.
Bellows protect heat-sensitive areas
In industrial 3D printing, thermoplastic injection molding granules are processed by a printer and applied three-dimensionally, line by line, to form an object. Specifically in composite extrusion modeling, 3D printers use a metal powder bound in plastic granules, in which the plastic component is melted. This process can generate temperatures of up to 275 °C on the heating plate and up to 200 °C in the build chamber.
In this application, bellows are used as a flexible partition for the work area. They contain the heat within the build chamber and protect heat-sensitive areas. These bellows are manufactured from special technical fabrics that are, for example, self-extinguishing.
Heat-Resistant Joining Techniques for High Stability
In addition to selecting the appropriate bellows material, proper fabrication of the bellows is also crucial. For high-temperature applications, HEMA designs the protective systems in a special configuration without adhesives and with PVC support frames to ensure dimensional stability. For bellows manufactured using CNC machining, alternative joining techniques such as thermal bonding or HF welding are used.
No matter the temperature range or manufacturing process: Reliable protection systems are not off-the-shelf—custom-designed bellows protect components and ensure the longevity of the machines.
