Bearings
Platform for combined loads
Tapered roller bearings are the ideal choice when radial and axial forces act simultaneously. Thanks to their specific design, they reliably accommodate combined loads. Findling offers users a broad, clearly structured range of these bearings.
The strength of tapered roller bearings lies in their ability to handle radial and axial forces at the same time. This occurs at a defined contact angle, which determines the magnitude of the axial load capacity. In standard series, the contact angle typically ranges between 10° and 16°, though it can be significantly higher in special designs. A crucial factor is that axial forces are accommodated in only one direction; consequently, tapered roller bearings are often used in pairs, arranged in an X or O configuration.
In terms of design, tapered roller bearings follow a clear principle: a ribless outer ring—the "cup"—interfaces with an assembly consisting of the inner ring, cage, and rollers—the "cone." This separation allows for precise adjustment of the preload during installation.
Preload and bearing clearance determine performance and service life
The design configuration of preload and bearing clearance forms the foundation for the performance and service life of any tapered roller bearing arrangement. While excessive bearing clearance leads to imprecise shaft guidance and disruptive vibrations, targeted preload ensures significantly higher system rigidity. This rigidity is crucial for minimizing shaft deflection under load and maximizing the positioning accuracy of the entire mechanical system. A key advantage is improved dynamic behavior; higher natural frequencies are achieved, thereby reducing the structure's susceptibility to vibration.
Furthermore, preload optimizes load distribution within the bearing, ensuring that all rolling elements are loaded more evenly and reducing wear. Despite these benefits, the impact on frictional torque must be carefully monitored to prevent overheating. Ultimately, the balance between clearance and preload determines whether a bearing achieves its full service life or fails prematurely due to overheating. Proper installation therefore always requires strict adherence to manufacturer specifications regarding the target rigidity and the resulting operating characteristics.
Precision manufacturing
Due to their design, manufacturing precision plays a pivotal role in tapered roller bearings. The extended lines of contact of the rollers and raceways must intersect at a single point; only then is smooth rolling motion achieved. Even minor deviations lead to slippage, increased friction, and altered load distribution. This also directly affects noise and vibration characteristics.
Tapered roller bearings from Findling’s standard range meet these exact requirements. They are available in metric or inch dimensions, either individually or as matched sets. Outer and inner rings can be combined flexibly. To identify the variant that is both technically and economically optimal for the customer from the available portfolio, Findling employs the ABEG® method. The product range is structured into four clearly defined performance classes.
"For us, a standard bearing is not a compromise, but often the best solution," explains Managing Director Klaus Findling. "The key is a well-considered selection that precisely meets the application's needs. That is exactly what we enable our customers to achieve."
