The next level in safety and ease of assembly

Pflitsch presents LevelEx, the safe Ex cable gland for the areas "Ex-d" and "Ex-e" - also for armored cables.

Regardless of whether it is the extraction of crude oil and natural gas, the manufacture of chemical products or special vehicles: sectors such as oil and gas, the chemical industry and special vehicle construction are characterized by extremely high requirements with regard to the components used. PTB demands: In the case of the "increased safety" type of protection, Ex "eb", the mode of operation is based on the prevention of ignition of the potentially explosive atmosphere, which can also penetrate the enclosure, by the equipment. In the case of "protection by enclosure", Ex "t", the mode of operation is based on the use of dust-proof (IP 5X) and dust-tight (IP 6X) enclosures together with limiting the surface temperature of the equipment below the glow temperature of the dust that occurs.

The well-known Ex d cable glands on the market often appear very clunky and can only be installed with a certain amount of effort. With the LevelEx, Pflitsch reaches the next "level" in terms of safety and ease of assembly. This new Ex series convinces with a compact design, captive parts and a wide range of applications for the areas "Ex-d", "Ex-e" and "Ex t" of device class II in the fields of gas and dust.

High tightness and Ex-protection with only four parts

LevelEx consists of only four parts: The sealing elements are designed to be captive, so they cannot be lost during assembly. Rubber rings and various washers - as with conventional Ex-d cable glands - are a thing of the past. When the pressure screw is tightened, the seal deforms over a large area and achieves a high degree of tightness with protection classes IP 66 or IP 68. Thanks to the Pflitsch concept, strain relief is also above average.

Wrench flats enable safe assembly with commercially available tools. A defined deformation of the O-ring - placed in a groove - ensures a secure seal between the cable gland and the housing when the double nipple is screwed on.

Many sizes - wide temperature range - international approvals.

The LevelEx is available in sizes M16 to M75 or with NPT threads from 3/8" to 2 1/2". Pflitsch manufactures the cable gland bodies from bright brass, galvanized nickel-plated brass and corrosion-free stainless steel. Cables from 7 mm to 66 mm can be reliably sealed. With its wide temperature range from -60 °C to +130 °C, the LevelEx can also be used under extreme environmental conditions and temperatures such as those found in plants in the offshore sector, in deserts or in arctic regions.

Explosion protection at the highest level: LevelEx AC

The new LevelEx AC cable gland is the logical extension of the Ex series and is used for the introduction of armored cables e.g. industrial onshore, offshore and marine applications. The AC variant has an additional deluge seal, which requires a successful water submersion test in which components are exposed to the effects of typical marine and offshore environmental conditions. In addition to its technical performance features and high IP 66 and IP 68 protection ratings, it will feature all major approvals such as ATEX, IECEx, EAC, CCC and Kosha.

Ex and EMC safety in one cable gland

As a trendsetter in the EMC field, Pflitsch also offers the LevelEx with the TRI spring: This integrated triangle spring convinces with the safe 360° contacting of the cable shield. This only has to be stripped at the contact point and can be continued into the Ex housing up to the connection point. Since the shielding braid remains intact, the highest shielding attenuation values and a high current carrying capacity are achieved. Both values are also independent of the assembly quality. LevelEX TRI in sizes M16 to M63 provides durable all-round protection for cable diameters from 5 mm to 46 mm.
