Tune machines optimally

Thanks to the cooperation with Acumo AB, the authorized NSK distributor in Sweden, one of the largest manufacturers of packaging machines in Scandinavia can optimally adapt its machines to individual customer requirements and at the same time standardize the drive technology. Österbergs Förpackningsmaskiner AB now uses NSK linear guides as standard, which are assembled and supplied by Acumo to meet specific orders.

Österbergs, founded in 1975 and based in Gothenburg, Sweden, focuses on flexible, customized packaging machines. The spectrum ranges from comparatively simple machines to complex robotic cells for packaging tasks. Österbergs' technicians have defined standard machines, each of which is adapted to the specific requirements of the application or customer. In this way, the machine fits the respective application perfectly. The prerequisite, however, is that the suppliers are as flexible as Österbergs.

Acumo fulfills this requirement. The NSK contract partner first contacted Österbergs in 2010. Ulf Nordling, project manager at Österbergs: "I immediately liked one of Acumo's position indicators. It was a perfect fit for our drive units. More or less by chance, we then discovered that Acumo also had NSK's linear guides in its range."

Since then, Österbergs has relied on linear guides and ball screws from NSK as standard. To ensure short delivery times for users, Acumo has a large stock of NSK solutions, including the NH/NS series linear guides (also with special surface treatments such as Duralloy and black chromate coating), which the company cuts to the required lengths in its own factory using a water-cooled cutting system.

Österbergs' managers are very satisfied with both the quality and performance of NSK's drive components and Acumo's service. Ulf Nordling: "The linear guides from NSK are simply outstanding. Our customers notice the high quality of the guide elements, and Acumo is a pleasure to work with. A close working relationship has developed, and our contacts at Acumo know almost intuitively what we need. When needed, we always get prompt help, for example with calculations."

Last year, Österbergs increased its use of NSK's NH/NS series linear guides with Duralloy surface treatment to ensure an even longer service life in its machines for the forestry and paper industries. The new machine series developed for this application area is another example of the proven cooperation between technology supplier NSK, authorized dealer Acumo and Österbergs' expertise.
