AI-Capable CNC Control System Compliant with the EU Cyber Resilience Act
Siemens is introducing a new generation of hardware for its Sinumerik One CNC control system. With significantly increased computing power, modern graphics architecture, and a platform designed for long-term cybersecurity, the company is addressing key technological and regulatory requirements in the industry. At the same time, the new architecture lays the foundation for the use of artificial intelligence in manufacturing. Customers benefit from increased productivity through data-driven optimization of machining processes and improved utilization of machine data.
At the heart of this innovation is a new generation of NCU and PLC processors. The NCU 1740.2 and 1760.2 models offer significantly higher computing power and, in particular, improve communication and data processing. This is complemented by a new PLC-ASIC — a hardware component specifically developed for PLC functions — which ensures additional functionalities, such as Profinet support, as well as long-term availability and support. Especially in highly networked manufacturing environments, users benefit from more stable and faster data processing, as well as greater performance reserves for complex applications and future expansions.
Modern User Interfaces Thanks to New Graphics Architecture
A high-performance graphics processor enables modern HMI concepts with intuitive operation and sophisticated visualization. Machine manufacturers can thus differentiate themselves more effectively while simultaneously improving the usability of their systems. This has a direct impact on productivity and operational efficiency, for example through reduced setup times and lower training requirements.
AI-Capable: The Foundation for Data-Driven Manufacturing
With the introduction of a 64-bit architecture, Sinumerik One is specifically tailored to the requirements of data-intensive applications. This creates the technical foundation for integrating AI functionalities and connecting to higher-level analytics systems.
For users, this means that machines can be more easily integrated into data-driven optimization processes — for example, to improve quality, optimize processes, or enable predictive maintenance. Furthermore, Sinumerik One supports the connectivity of the machine to cloud or edge infrastructures, which is necessary for the deployment of Industrial AI.
The Cyber Resilience Act as a Regulatory Framework
As connectivity grows and the use of data increases, so do the security requirements for industrial systems. The EU Cyber Resilience Act defines regulatory requirements that specifically address the long-term updatability and security of products.
The new generation of Sinumerik One hardware is designed to meet these requirements. Higher computing power enables the use of additional security mechanisms, while the architecture is designed for long-term maintainability and system resilience. This allows machine builders and operators to design their systems in accordance with regulatory requirements.
In addition to the new Sinumerik One generation, the entire Sinumerik portfolio is aligned with the requirements of the EU Cyber Resilience Act and is therefore CRA-ready.
