Sumitomo Drive Technologies, together with the Lafert Group, will showcase a new version of its drive for automated guided vehicles (AGVs) at Logimat 2023, April 25-27 in Stuttgart, Germany (Booth F45, Hall 6). The Smartris Drive Compact is a compact drive controller, four times smaller compared to the standard model.

The Smartris drive package combines the three components of a gearbox, servo motor and drive controller. The AGV solution is available in three sizes and different versions. The new Smartris Drive Compact in combination with the Eco-S series transports up to 800 kg total weight at a speed of up to 2.0 m/s.

"To meet the increasing market demand for compact autonomous driving systems, we have developed Smartris Drive Compact. The new drive controller is now only the size of a computer mouse, with full functionality," says Christian Lochner, Product Manager Drive Systems at Sumitomo Drive Technologies.

Smartris' single-stage cyclo principle in the gearbox, directly mounted servo motor and in-wheel structure provide additional compactness. Compact AGVs can maneuver in tight spaces and narrow aisles. They are therefore very flexible and can be used in a variety of environments, including manufacturing plants, warehouses and distribution centers.

Energy efficiency through complete drive packages

In addition, visitors to the Sumitomo and Lafert booth will learn how complete drive packages help to protect the environment and reduce costs. The BBB-H IE5 drive package with a motor of energy efficiency class Ultra Premium IE5 is an example of the energy efficiency of drives.

The drive solution in the 0.75-4 kW power range combines a bevel helical gearbox, Lafert IE5 PM synchronous motor and Invertek frequency converter. The individual components are matched to achieve maximum energy savings and compactness in high-speed solutions, such as baggage handling systems at airports, parcel sorting in logistics centers or automated storage systems. Long-term grease lubrication guarantees long service life and operational reliability even in any mounting position. This avoids contamination of the surroundings and thus the environment through oil leakage.
