Frequency converters
Cool climate, cool technology
The efficiency of refrigeration and air conditioning applications can be significantly improved through the use of flexible performance control. However, innovative refrigeration machines with powerful turbo or centrifugal compressors place high demands on frequency converter technology. The Lüneburg high-speed specialists at Sieb & Meyer have the right solutions in their portfolio. These enable highly efficient applications with minimal rotor heating.
Frequency converters are not necessarily installed in all refrigeration machines - after all, many systems run in on/off mode, so output control is not necessary. However, if the manufacturer decides to take advantage of flexible power control, frequency converters come into play. Power control via these devices has many advantages, including significantly improving the efficiency of the systems. Users also benefit from a particularly clean run.
Innovative refrigeration machines with turbo or centrifugal compressors, which are currently on the rise in the industry, especially in the higher performance range, work at speeds of more than 100,000 rpm. No problem for the frequency converters from Sieb & Meyer, whose control process also ensures exceptionally low rotor heating. In addition, the devices can be easily adapted to changing requirements because the software can be flexibly configured.
As in many high-speed applications, rotor heating is a central issue in refrigeration machines with turbo or centrifugal compressors. Accordingly, power losses must be reduced as much as possible. Sieb & Meyer solves this requirement, among other things, by using 3-level power stage technology in the SD4M frequency inverter series. This is more complex compared to the classic 2-level power amplifier, but reduces the eddy current losses in the rotor and thus motor heating to a minimum.
“Thanks to our focus on the high-speed sector, we can work with our customers to provide solutions for refrigeration and air conditioning technology with the highest system efficiency,” explains Torsten Blankenburg, CTO of Sieb & Meyer AG. “Our SD4x and SD2x product families make a direct contribution to significantly improving the efficiency of the applications and making them both energy and cost efficient.”
