Highest control dynamics without dual-use restrictions

Simple export processing for internationally operating customers: Sieb & Meyer has expanded its SD4x product family to include drive controllers that are limited to a maximum of 599 Hz on the hardware and software side and therefore do not fall under the dual-use regulation 3A225. A particular advantage: the limitation does not involve any loss of performance on the control technology side.

The dual-use regulation 3A225 applies to electronic components that can be used for both civil and military purposes. This also includes highly dynamic frequency converters and servo amplifiers with frequencies of 600 Hz and more. With the regulation, the Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA) wants to prevent these technologies from being used in an uncontrolled manner in weapons or military high-performance systems.

The drive controllers from the SD4x drive generation from Sieb & Meyer are optimized for high-speed applications. To do this, they typically have to provide rotating field frequencies > 599 Hz. This fact in turn means that these devices fall under the dual-use regulation 3A225 and are therefore subject to country-specific export restrictions.

In order to simplify export processing for its customers, Sieb & Meyer is now making product variants available that are limited to 599 Hz on the hardware and software side. The user continues to benefit from the high control dynamics of the SD4x family. "The highly dynamic control provided by our drive controllers offers the machine builder significant performance advantages even in applications with rotating field frequencies < 599 Hz," explains Torsten Blankenburg, Chief Technology Officer at Sieb & Meyer. "This applies equally to highly dynamic frequency converter and servo amplifier applications."
