Highly efficient operation of high-speed applications
The drive controllers of the SD4S series from Sieb & Meyer have proven themselves wherever the highly efficient and loss-free operation of high-speed motors is required. In terms of performance, the SD4S device series covers a wide spectrum, meaning that Sieb & Meyer can offer its customers a suitable solution for many areas of application. At this year's SPS in Nuremberg, Sieb & Meyer will be presenting the complete product series with all performance classes up to 48 kW.
The SD4S is an all-rounder with which Sieb & Meyer can offer a suitable solution for many different applications due to its high range of functions and broad performance spectrum. The SD4S is available in three voltage classes. The smallest device with 300 W @ 50 VAC is only 40 mm wide. With input voltages of 230 VAC, outputs between 800 and 2400 W are achieved, and with devices powered three-phase with 400 VAC, outputs of up to 48 kW are possible.
Compared to the previous generation - the SD2S series - the construction volume of all product variants has been reduced by up to 44% with the same performance. With its wide range of performance, the highly efficient SD4S series meets the requirements in the field of machine tools as well as those of dental milling machines or machines for fine machining, for example in the watch industry. Other areas of application include wafer dicing machines in semiconductor production, turbo compressors and highly dynamic servo applications.
On the control side, the SD4S enables the operation of sensorless asynchronous, synchronous and IPM motors up to a rotating field frequency of 4,000 Hz (240,000 rpm). This is currently a unique selling point on the market and opens up new possibilities for the user when designing their drive solution. Since the necessary insulation strength in the motors often cannot be achieved, especially with motors or spindles with lower performance, the SD4S offers galvanic isolation of the thermal contact.
Extensive communication interfaces
All devices in the SD4S device series are equipped with the Safe Torque Off (STO) safety function as standard. The devices offer interfaces for CANopen and Modbus TCP for communication with the higher-level control system. A multi-protocol real-time Ethernet interface is available as an option, enabling flexible communication with the higher-level control system via EtherCAT (CoE), PROFINET IO or Powerlink. The integrated real-time clock enables error cases and interactions with external events or processes to be precisely analyzed.
Parameterization takes place via a standard Ethernet interface, which replaces the USB interface, which is prone to interference in industrial environments. The drivemaster4 parameterization software serves as the central tool for parameterization, commissioning and simulation of the entire SD4x series. With the help of the SpindleServiceTool (SST), a separate software that Sieb & Meyer makes available to its customers and is available as an option for the drivemaster4, spindle manufacturers or repairers in particular can implement individual running-in sequences without external control.
In addition, Sieb & Meyer has further developed the "Motor Analyzer" known from drivemaster2 in the drivemaster4. The tool enables meaningful simulations of the entire drive controller operation. This allows operating points, characteristics and output currents to be simulated, displayed and output. The new FFT analysis of the simulated output variables provides useful information about the total harmonic distortion (THD) of the motor current (THDi) and the motor voltage (THDu). This helps the user to estimate the operating behavior and motor heating.
