Convincing as a standalone
Every year, more than one million standalone motors leave Nord Drivesystems’ production facilities worldwide. Originally launched to complement its gear unit portfolio, Nord now supplies standard and custom electric motors to users across more than 100 industries.
Nord Drivesystems began manufacturing its own motors in 1983. Today, annual production volumes exceed the one-million mark. At three production sites, the drive technology specialist manufactures asynchronous motors ranging from 0.12 to 55 kW and synchronous motors from 0.5 kW to 11 kW. By offering both standardized motors and customer-specific configurations, Nord meets a wide range of industrial requirements, with a focus on two key aspects: flexibility and availability.
From continuous-duty units to explosion-proof models
Nord motors are used in a wide variety of applications. These range from energy-intensive continuous-duty units in intralogistics to hygienic, smooth-surface motors with NXD tupH surface treatment for wash-down areas in the food industry. The product range also includes explosion-proof versions compliant with ATEX, IECEx, and HazLoc standards for conveyor systems operating in dusty or gaseous atmospheres.
High-demand efficiency portfolio
One of Nord’s most sought-after developments is its efficiency portfolio, featuring motors in efficiency classes IE3 through IE5. This range complies with all efficiency regulations in key international markets. With its IE5+ permanent magnet synchronous motor, Nord even surpasses the efficiency levels defined by the highest IE class. The manufacturer makes it easy for customers seeking to upgrade to a higher efficiency class during retrofitting: thanks to identical motor dimensions, users can make the switch without requiring major mechanical modifications.
Rapid global availability
Nord manufactures its standard and custom motor models at international hubs in Italy, Poland, and China, with additional motor assembly plants located in North and South America, India, and Australia. This enables the company to achieve short delivery times for both domestic and international customer projects. Nord motors are not only quickly available but also ready for immediate use. The portfolio includes motors with international approvals and certifications. For instance, the asynchronous UNIVERSAL motor and the IE5+ synchronous motor can be integrated into systems and machinery worldwide without significant design modifications. This simplifies and accelerates system commissioning.

By utilizing modern manufacturing facilities and a quality management system certified to DIN ISO 9001, the company ensures its self-imposed quality standards are met at all locations.
