Servo drives
Cost-effective automation solutions
Mitsubishi Electric has introduced Melservo-JET, a new servo drive series that enables manufacturers to implement advanced automation without large investments. In light of ongoing economic pressures, this new solution enables strategic production modernization while simultaneously controlling budgets.
"Melservo-JET was developed for companies that want to specifically improve their automation, for example, through faster and more flexible production machines that maintain or improve production quality while keeping machine and production costs constant," explains Oliver Giertz, Strategic Product Manager for Servos & Robots at Mitsubishi Electric. "It reflects the modern approach to automation investments, where a fast and measurable return on investment is crucial."
High efficiency without large investments
The Deloitte "2025 Manufacturing Industry Outlook" shows that manufacturers continue to face high costs and market uncertainty. Therefore, they are focusing on automation technologies with a clear and rapid return on investment. Melservo-JET addresses this trend.
A faster and more precise machine is one way to achieve this return on investment. The extremely high positioning accuracy required for improved product throughput while maintaining or improving product quality is achieved by Mitsubishi Electric's powerful and high-precision servo systems.
The system offers high positioning accuracy through encoders with a resolution of up to 24 bits and a fast response (up to 3.2 kHz) for precise motion control. The high overload capacity (up to 450%) and the high inertia ratio (up to 1:25) enable smaller drives while maintaining performance, which directly translates into cost savings.
Simplified installation approach
The shortage of skilled engineering personnel means that manufacturing and commissioning must sometimes be carried out by less qualified personnel. Melservo-JET reduces assembly time through a simple installation concept. At the heart of this approach are multi-axis drives that reduce wiring requirements. This reduction in wiring complexity is further supported by the single-cable motor solution, which consolidates power and feedback signals into a single connection.
Building on these efficiency advantages, the system integrates network-based safety functions that completely replace conventional safety wiring. These design elements enable an installation process that combines technical sophistication with practical simplicity.
"Melservo-JET systems address common challenges for manufacturers," says Oliver Giertz of Mitsubishi Electric. "Features such as automatic motor detection and auto-tuning make the system accessible even for companies taking their first steps in advanced automation. The one-touch tuning function is particularly valuable, as it adjusts system settings in just 0.3 seconds, requires less expertise, and helps companies address the skills shortage."
Industry 4.0 Compatibility
Mitsubishi Electric's Melservo-JET servo systems can be fully integrated into various motion-centric networks such as CC-Link IE TSN and EtherCAT, supporting seamless factory integration of modern manufacturing processes.
These connections enable integration with manufacturing execution systems (MES) and enterprise planning platforms and support data acquisition for predictive maintenance and process optimization – important features for manufacturers transitioning to data-driven processes.
The Melservo-JET Series
Melservo-JET features a compact design, easy setup, and flexible implementation options. The system offers power ratings from 0.1 kW to 3.0 kW for the 200 V versions and from 0.6 kW to 7 kW for the 400 V versions, making it suitable for a variety of industrial applications.
The smallest models, such as the MR-JET-40G with dimensions of only 40 x 196 x 205 mm, save valuable space in the control cabinet while offering high performance.
