Servo drives
Design according to the specific requirements
The VLT Multiaxis Servo Drive is a key element of VLT FlexMotion, the flexible and modular servo concept that enables machine builders to design systems precisely tailored to their specific requirements.
Danfoss introduces the new VLT Multiaxis Servo Drive 520 (MSD 520), the latest addition to the VLT FlexMotion servo portfolio. This innovative servo solution offers advanced functional safety, efficiency, and seamless integration to meet the complex demands of modern motion control applications.
Benefits of the MSD 520 for machine builders:
1. Compact and optimized design
The MSD 520 represents a significant design improvement over its predecessor, the VLT Multiaxis Servo Drive MSD 510. By integrating the Decentral Access Module option into the VLT Power Supply Module PSM 520, the system contains fewer separate modules, reducing space requirements, complexity, and installation effort.
2. Integrated Advanced Functional Safety
The MSD 520 comes standard with a built-in, wired STO (Safe Torque Off). It also supports advanced safety functions via PROFIsafe and Functional Safety over EtherCAT (FSoE) fieldbuses. These functions meet safety levels SIL 3 (IEC 61508) and PL e/CAT 3 (ISO 13849), enabling machine builders to achieve high safety standards, operator protection, risk minimization, and reduced downtime.
3. Seamless System Integration
Designed for seamless integration into various modern automation environments such as Siemens, B&R, and Beckhoff, machine builders can easily integrate the VLT FlexMotion servo solution into their existing architectures with minimal complexity.
4. Flexible System Architecture
Use the MSD 520 as a standalone central servo system or in combination with decentralized products such as the VLT® Integrated Servo Drive ISD 520 and VLT® Decentralized Servo Drive DSD 520. This flexibility allows machine builders to adapt the system architecture to specific application requirements.
5. Easy "Click and Lock" Mounting
The "click and lock" concept simplifies module installation. Modules are securely mounted through the rear panel with a DC link connection and auxiliary power supply.
A flexible and modular design allows machine builders to construct the exact systems that meet their specific requirements. The MSD 520 consists of the following modules:
- Power Supply Module PSM 520, which provides a central power supply up to 30 kW, including the integrated Decentral Access Module (DAM).
- Servo Drive Module SDM 521, available in two different frames to meet varying power requirements. The SDM 521 supports single-axis applications.
- The SDM 522 servo drive module supports multi-axis applications.
- The EXM 520 expansion module enables easy scalability by allowing the system architecture to be distributed across multiple cabinets.
With the introduction of the MSD 520, the new VLT FlexMotion servo portfolio is now complete and offers advanced functional safety as one of its key features. Ideal for demanding motion control applications, this servo portfolio delivers operational optimization without compromising safety or performance.
