Electric motors
Cost-effective and easy to implement solution
Parker Hannifin presents the latest addition to its powerful family of mobile motors: the NX8xHM low voltage range. The new permanent magnet AC (PMAC) motor offers a cost-effective solution for on-road and off-road vehicles, making it the ideal choice for electro-hydraulic pumps used in 48 VDC construction vehicles such as mini-excavators. The motors are also suitable for steering applications and aids in road trucks.
One of the main advantages of the NX8xHM motor range, which is available for battery voltages from 24 to 96 VDC, is its ease of implementation. The availability of four threaded holes on all sides provides a simple mechanical mounting interface. In addition, thanks to the direct SAE-A interface for pump mounting (ISO 3019/2 as an option), the motor is ready for direct installation, while cable lugs allow easy connection of power cables. The result is a hassle-free installation that minimizes both costs and project turnaround times.
Despite being designed for natural convection cooling at ambient operating temperatures of -40 °C to +85 °C, it is possible to increase the torque and power of the motor by simply adding cooling plates to the sides. A PT1000 thermal sensor ensures highly reliable control of the internal temperature, while a membrane air vent is used to minimize internal condensation.
The motor's IP67 protection class and its ability to operate under oil support reliable and silent operation.
In terms of precision and repeatability, sin/cos speed feedback matches the encoder direction to the direction of the NX8xHM motor. Here, the output of analog voltages with a sinusoidal shape allows the signal to be interpolated to achieve a higher feedback resolution, which is beneficial for both speed and feedback loops.
"Compared to existing solutions, the new NX8xHM offers an easy-to-implement and cost-effective solution thanks to its mounting options and natural convection cooling," stated Bruno Jouffrey, Mobile Market Manager in Parker Hannifin's EMPD Division. "In addition, the robust design, based on proven experience with our GVM [Global Vehicle Motor] range, means that users of the new motors will benefit from durability and reliability - both prerequisites in the mobile hydraulic machinery market. Combined with our voltage-matched GVI [Global Vehicle Inverter], the NX8xHM offers an easy way to electrify hydraulic pumps in low voltage, low power applications, perhaps representing a first step towards full vehicle electrification."
The modular motors of the NX8xHM series are available in three different lengths for a rated torque of up to 61 Nm. Up to 10 windings per length support optimized efficiency, which adapts the speed to the battery voltage. A total of nine standard motors are available with speeds of up to 5,000 rpm and a rated output of up to 10.4 kW. If none of the models meet the exact requirements, other motor outputs are available on request.
