Linear Technology for Precise Multilayer Processes

In the manufacture of multilayer printed circuit boards, even the smallest deviations can mean the difference between scrap and quality. Cedatec meets these demands with custom-designed system concepts engineered for precise and stable motion sequences. Rollon’s linear technology plays a central role in this.

Founded in 2018, Cedatec develops custom machines for the production of multilayer printed circuit boards. Key performance characteristics include a compact design and positioning accuracy of up to 25 micrometers, combined with high dynamics. Process quality depends directly on the precision and uniformity of the linear motions within the machines. Even minimal deviations in the motion sequence can lead to misalignment and compromise subsequent process steps. Cedatec therefore relies on two solutions from Rollon: the belt-driven ELM actuator and the self-aligning Compact Rail linear guide.

Rollon’s linear technology ensures stable motion sequences

The ELM actuator handles the transport of multilayer films within the machines. Compared to the in-house designs previously used, it significantly reduces assembly and adjustment efforts and simplifies integration into the machine structure. At the same time, it ensures high repeatability accuracy and stable transport processes through smooth motion sequences. An integrated polyurethane belt protects the system from Dust and contaminants.

For applications with increased requirements for tolerance compensation and operational reliability, Cedatec relies on Compact Rail linear guides. These are used, among other things, in welding heads and for handling copper coils. Their key feature is the ability to compensate for misalignments. This allows for tighter manufacturing tolerances in the machine structure and avoids time-consuming rework. At the same time, it prevents jamming during motion caused by stress or inaccuracies. The Compact Rail thus enables smooth and trouble-free motion and facilitates adaptation to customer-specific machine designs. This flexibility is particularly crucial for Cedatec, as nearly every system is custom-designed.

Linear Technology as the Key to Process Stability and Adaptability

Stable processes, reduced susceptibility to errors, and flexible adaptation to customer-specific requirements: For Cedatec, Rollon linear technology is a functionally crucial component of the machine architecture that ensures the required precision and process stability. With an eye toward future developments, the company is already working on the next generation of its systems. The focus is on higher process temperatures up to 300 °C, increasing energy efficiency requirements, and more compact designs. Linear technology will continue to play a central role in meeting these requirements from a technical standpoint.
