System provider Nord Drivesystems offers highly efficient solutions with its latest IE5+ motor generation, significantly reducing energy and resource consumption in industry. The company has now expanded the power output of its compact permanent magnet synchronous motors to 11 kW.

Nord's highly efficient IE5+ permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) are characterized by a consistently high efficiency of up to 95% across a wide torque range. This ensures optimal energy consumption performance even under partial load and partial speed conditions. The motors are now available in three frame sizes and, with an extended power range from 0.35 kW to 11 kW and a continuous torque of 1.6 Nm to 43.8 Nm, cover a broad spectrum of applications.

The high overload capacity, large adjustment range, and constant torque of the IE5+ motors across a wide speed range of up to 2,400 rpm enable a reduction in the number of variants required for each application, thereby significantly streamlining administrative efforts as well as manufacturing, logistics, warehousing, and service processes. "This offers considerable advantages, especially in large-scale intralogistics systems with numerous drives and long operating times," emphasizes Jörg Niermann, Head of Marketing at Nord.

Energy efficiency and material savings

"The efficiency of our IE5+ motors significantly exceeds that of the highest defined energy efficiency class, which considerably reduces their energy consumption and CO2e emissions in operation," Niermann continues. "Furthermore, the holistic concept of our new motor technology combines energy and material efficiency, thus scoring points twice in terms of sustainability." The permanent magnet synchronous motors are designed with 8 poles in the innovative IPM design. This allowed for a reduction in the size of the motor's active components, resulting in material savings in the lamination stack and magnets. The stator can also be manufactured using a single-tooth winding, which reduces the amount of copper required in the winding head.

Modular system solutions

NORD's drive solutions are individually tailored to specific customer requirements and are suitable for worldwide use. IE5+ motors, for example, are also available with an integrated encoder, an integrated mechanical brake, and various flange mounting options for direct gearbox installation. Furthermore, the manufacturer enables the assembly of optimally matched drive systems, including electric motors, gearboxes, and frequency converters from its extensive modular product range – such as IE5+ motors combined with the Nordac ON or a Block bevel gearbox. Users benefit in every case from increased operating efficiency, reduced total cost of ownership (TCO), and a rapid return on investment (ROI).
