Robust special design

Menzel Elektromotoren manufactured a large vertical high-voltage motor (IM 3011 / IM V1) to drive a pump.

Because the vertical motor must absorb high dynamic axial loads, it has a special bearing design. The upper support bearing is water-cooled; it runs in the oil sump and is constantly protected by oil level and oil temperature monitoring. The lower bearing is grease-lubricated and self-cooling. For the same reason, the motor, and especially the non-drive end bearing, were constructed to be very solid.

The motor must precisely adhere to the specified flange and shaft dimensions. At the customer's request, Menzel also manufactured a platform with recesses through which the condition of the coupling can be checked at any time. The MEBKSL series squirrel-cage motor has a rated power of 1100 kW, a rated voltage of 4160 V, and a rated torque of 20,598 Nm at 509 revolutions per minute. It has an IP55 protection rating and IC 611 cooling type, with a double-sided air-to-air heat exchanger for uniform cooling at Central American ambient temperatures.
