The new generation of Posital's IXARC magnetic precision absolute encoders is now available with BiSS C communication interfaces. Encoders with this interface are ideal for commutation and position feedback in BLDC servo motors.

In addition, their outstanding performance characteristics, compact size (36 mm diameter, 32 mm height), and low energy requirements make them ideal for complex, multi-axis motion control applications in areas such as robotics and medical technology.

IXARC encoders with BiSS C interface feature the latest TMR technology for single-turn detection and advanced microprocessors from Posital. These improvements increase both resolution (up to 19 bits) and dynamic response (up to 12,000 rpm) as well as energy efficiency. Multiturn variants feature a 32-bit rotation measurement range (over two billion revolutions). The rotation counters are self-sufficient thanks to Wiegand energy harvesting technology. This eliminates the need for cumbersome buffer batteries or bulky gear systems, significantly reducing maintenance and costs.

BiSS C (Bidirectional/Serial/Synchronous Continuous) is a powerful interface that supports real-time communication between control devices and sensors/actuators in motion control systems. The interface also allows the system to set operating parameters in slave devices. Communication is based on point-to-point RS-422 connections and offers the option of connecting multiple devices in series for more efficient cable routing. The BiSS C interface uses the same cabling components as the older SSI interface, which simplifies upgrades. BiSS interfaces are based on non-proprietary standards, with support and licenses offered free of charge by the non-profit BiSS Association e.V.

Typical of Posital's vast IXARC encoder portfolio, the new BiSS C-enabled devices are also available in a variety of mechanical configurations with multiple options for enclosures and flanges, shaft types, and protection ratings. Their 36 mm enclosures fit into the same mounting space as common size 15 resolvers. Unlike resolvers, however, IXARC encoders offer digital multiturn absolute position measurements, eliminating the need for an A/D converter.
