Motion Control

MX Controller: High-speed control and synchronization for up to 256 axes

The MX controller combines ultra-fast control for MR-J5 servo drives and precise synchronization of up to 256 axes, making it the ideal platform for complex motion control applications.

MX Controller: The new automation platform for high-speed motion control

With the MX Controller Series, Mitsubishi Electric is defining the next generation of automation. The mastermind of manufacturing integrates sequence, motion, and communication control in a single module, providing a compact yet powerful solution for modern manufacturing processes. The MX controller is available in the form of a compact MX-F series which impresses with its maximum performance in a small space. Designed for compact and powerful applications, the MX-F controller can be expanded using modules. The MX-R series is an additional modular variant and high-performance controller for complex and networked manufacturing systems. The MX-R controller will give high-speed applications in drive technology a decisive competitive advantage.

High-speed control for MR-J5

Combining MX controllers with MR-J5 servo drives enables calculation cycles of just 125 µs. This makes it possible to achieve highly dynamic movements and precise positioning, even in complex applications such as packaging lines, battery and semiconductor manufacturing systems. The MR-J5 series supports CC-Link IE TSN and EtherCAT, offering functions such as one-touch tuning and Advanced Vibration Suppression Control II for optimized performance. These innovative, automated functions make it easy for users to maximize their machine performance without having to adjust countless parameters. Switching from existing drive solutions to the MR-J5 series is therefore profitable in every respect and can be achieved without additional effort.

Synchronization is possilbe for up to 256 axes

The MX controller series is flexibly scalable, from compact machines with eight axes to large production lines with 256 synchronized servo axes. Different calculation cycles per axis (125 µs, 500 µs and 2 ms) ensure maximum flexibility and stability, even with mixed cycle times.  The MX controller delivers optimal performance, particularly in applications where axis synchronization and adaptation to dynamic control parameters are essential, thereby enhancing process reliability and quality.

Open communication and security

With OPC UA and MQTT, the MX controller can be integrated into IT/OT environments. Compliant with international safety standards such as IEC62443-4-2, the MX controller offers integrated cybersecurity functions. Additional safety modules make the MX controller a flexible solution for reliably controlling drive technology via various network functions.

Engineering and diagnostics

Thanks to GX Works3, PLC and motion programming take place within a single environment. The 'dashcam' function records motion data with cycle accuracy, enabling rapid fault analysis with the support of AI-based diagnostics. When used with an HMI from the new GOT3000 series, faults can be diagnosed and rectified directly on the machine.

Areas of application

The MX controller is the best solution for all applications that require maximum precision, speed and connectivity, from packaging and labelling to battery production and electronics manufacturing. When used with MR-J5 series servo motion systems, it sets new standards for increasing productivity and quality in drive technology.
