Process advantages for the spray zone

Process advantages for the spray zone

Comparable to stainless steel in terms of hygiene and corrosion resistance, yet significantly more efficient in terms of space requirements and scalability: With the food-grade surface finish NXD tupH, Nord Drivesystems opens up new design options for primary packaging. Aluminum drive solutions are more compact and offer better thermal performance, and thanks to NXD tupH, they are effectively protected against moisture and aggressive cleaning chemicals during intensive cleaning cycles.

With NXD tupH, Nord Drivesystems brings drive technology with aluminum housings into the product-adjacent wet area of primary packaging. The combination of surface finishing and high-performance sealing ensures a particularly hard, non-porous surface that can be quickly cleaned to hygienic standards. The seal does not peel off even after numerous cleaning cycles and does not contaminate the products being packaged. Even with minor damage, the protective effect is maintained thanks to the surface finish. A long-term test with Ecolab cleaning agents has confirmed resistance to cleaning chemicals. Crucial for use in the wet area of primary packaging in close proximity to the product: Nord drive components with an NXD tupH surface are food-compliant in accordance with the requirements of the FDA, the EU, Switzerland, and the Mercosur countries.

More compact and better scalable

Nord uses NXD tupH to finish the hygienically designed drive components of its wash-down modular system, opening up process advantages in several additional application areas of primary packaging. This allows drive solutions with aluminum housings to be designed significantly more compactly than, for example, those with stainless steel, since aluminum is much more thermally conductive and lighter. The modular product system also allows the drives to be neatly integrated into the machine. All of this reduces space requirements and makes the system flexibly scalable.

Decentralized and servo-compatible

With the NXD-tupH-compatible Nordac ON Pure, the solution provider will soon also be offering the benefits of decentralized drive electronics for wash-down applications. Ethernet on board, hybrid cables, and daisy-chain technology enable efficient and hygienic topologies. This makes the drive easier to clean and significantly more compact than traditional decentralized cabling. With its integrated POSICON software, motion profiles can also be created for non-complex servo applications typical in packaging. These include control functions such as synchronous operation and flying saw, which are used, for example, in the cutting and sealing of tubular packaging.

Cost-effective servo alternative

Wherever servo drives are oversized in the primary packaging line, Nord offers helical, bevel, and worm gear drives as a cost-effective alternative. With IEC, NEMA, and servo adapters from the Nord product portfolio, they can be combined with servo motors from various manufacturers. And the same applies here: When finished with NXD tupH, the drive solutions are robust, durable, and food-safe.
