Planetary gears
From exceptionally quiet to extremely robust
Flexibility, power density, and price are three key market requirements for drive components. These factors were central to the development of Faulhaber’s GPT gearhead family.
These gearheads can be flexibly combined with various motors from the standard product range—such as the flat BXT brushless family or the brushless DC drives from these micro-drive experts. They were specifically designed to work in tandem with the GXR/SXR family of DC drives. This enables the creation of perfectly matched combinations of encoder, motor, and gearhead that can be assembled compactly—maintaining a consistent diameter—without the need for additional connecting elements.
Withstanding high torques and load changes
The GPT gearhead series was developed to handle exceptionally high torques. Using up to six planetary gears per stage allows for a shorter overall length, delivering more power within a very compact footprint. GPT planetary gearheads are constructed from hardened stainless steel and feature fully welded joints, ensuring reliable transmission of high forces. Available in diameters ranging from 14 to 42 mm, they are significantly shorter than alternative models of the same diameter. They withstand constant load changes as well as abrupt or extreme load fluctuations. The 42 GPT series, for instance, can achieve an intermittent torque of up to 25 Nm. Depending on the specific variant, continuous torque ranges from 0.6 to 18 Nm, with speeds reaching up to 24,000 rpm. A wide selection of evenly spaced reduction ratios (from 3:1 to 1437:1) allows drive solutions to be ideally tailored to a diverse range of applications. Optimized component matching and high-performance lubricants further boost performance, as does the broad range of available output bearings.
High Torque or Low Noise
The Low-Noise series within the GPT family was developed for applications requiring minimal noise—such as when drive solutions operate in close proximity to people or involve multiple motors. Featuring an input gear stage with plastic gears, the 22 GPT LN and 32 GPT LN models reduce noise levels by up to 10 dB compared to the standard version. Despite this, they are capable of transmitting occasional peak torques of up to 4 Nm and 12 Nm, respectively. They operate across a wide temperature range of -30 to +110 °C, maintain high efficiency even during frequent or sudden load changes, and offer an excellent price-performance ratio alongside their impressive performance.
HT models are the ideal choice for operating environments that demand greater robustness. With their optimized geometry, they handle higher loads while delivering improved dynamics and maximum performance. They are available with three or four gear stages, a wide range of reduction ratios, and an operating temperature range of -30 to +120 °C. Sudden load changes or emergency stops do not compromise the drives' long service life. Depending on the model, gear backlash is 0.8° or 0.6°, enabling precise, repeatable positioning across a diverse range of applications.
