Planetary gears
New sizes, high power density
With the market launch of new PxG series planetary gear units, SEW-Eurodrive is expanding its portfolio of precise gear units for use in dynamic applications.
New single-, two- and three-stage planetary gear units of the PxG series in sizes 60 and 70 expand the possible areas of application. The new sizes are available in the three series of performance classes 5, 6 and 7. They have permissible peak torques of up to 4,200 Nm, 2,000 Nm and 6,150 Nm respectively.
The planetary gearheads of performance class 5 have a backlash of three to five angular minutes as standard. On the output side, they are available with a solid shaft, solid shaft with key or splined DIN5480 shaft and flange block shaft. A variant with reduced backlash of one to two angular minutes favours precise positioning on the output shaft. Performance class 5 gearboxes enable use in dynamic applications with high demands on smooth running, recurring positioning accuracy and a torque requirement of up to 4,200 Nm at peak.
Performance class 6 gearboxes are optimised for continuous operation and favour use at constant, high speeds. An optimised output bearing as well as modifications to the adapter shaft and gearing parts minimise thermal losses and ensure a long service life. This particularly low-wear design also enables constant operation over the entire life cycle. The planetary gearheads of performance class 6 can be connected via a solid shaft, solid shaft with key or splined shaft according to DIN5480.
The torque-increased version of performance class 7 offers up to 6,150 Nm at peak. The connection via the available flange block shaft creates a compact and torsionally stiff drive unit. A torsional backlash of one to two angular minutes in the standard and an identical geometry at the gearbox output offer the advantage that Performance Class 7 can always be used if, for example, the permissible output torque of Performance Class 5 is not sufficient.
In terms of durability and surface protection, the servo planetary gearboxes of the PxG series set new standards even in the standard version. The use of Premium Sine Seal as a shaft seal and GearOil by SEW-Eurodrive ensure minimum wear and a long service life. The surface finish of the output stage, including the centring and flange contact surfaces, provides consistent corrosion protection and prevents contamination of the machine or system during operation.
PxG series planetary servo gearboxes have been available since 2020. Since then, they have already been used in numerous applications. Thanks to the short standard delivery time of five to seven working days after receipt of order, customers have been able to commission their machines or systems quickly and deliver them on time.
