Retrofits for disc motors

In addition to maintenance and repair, Mattke AG also offers retrofits for disc motors, which are still widely used in many cases.

Disc motors were preferred drive solutions in automation technology in the 1970s. The outstanding characteristics of the motors include a directly proportional relationship between voltage and speed as well as current and torque. The motor's flat, ironless rotor disk also has a low moment of inertia. In addition, because the motor's carbon brushes sweep several conductors on the disk, the motor has excellent runout characteristics.

The disadvantages of disc motors, however, in addition to the wear-prone carbon brushes, include the low temperature resistance of the stamped conductors on the rotor disc at high currents and simultaneously low speeds.

Economical replacement for widely used series

Disc motors were in use in millions of units worldwide and many of them are still reliably performing their services in quite a number of machines and systems. Therefore Mattke offers among others the maintenance and repair of such motors. However, their repair can be time-consuming and cost-intensive due to insufficient availability of spare parts.

For this reason, Mattke AG has developed the permanent magnet synchronous motors of the MC 13-BL, MC 17-BL, MC 19-BL and MC 23 series for the widely used disc motor series.

The retrofits have the same flat design as the original motors. The shaft length, shaft diameter, centering collar and mounting holes have also been retained. Mattke's brushless servo motors can therefore be easily integrated one-to-one into any application without further mechanical adjustments.

New controller technology with identical input signals

Due to the different commutation technology used in the brushless servo motors, new servo controllers such as the MDR 2300 SE series are also required. The UL-certified digital servo controllers from Mattke are CE-compliant according to EN 610800-5- 1 and EN 61800-3, integrate analog as well as digital inputs and outputs, various encoder interfaces and a CAN bus interface. Since the input signals of the servo controllers are identical to those of the original DC controllers of disc motors, no adaptation of the higher-level control system is required.

The installation of the retrofits is therefore usually completely unproblematic. And on request, Mattke AG with its own installation team takes over the installation, connection and commissioning of the new drive solution on site.
