High-performance positioning in a small all-in-one package
JVL A/S, a global manufacturer in the field of integrated servo and stepper motors, has expanded its stainless steel integrated servo motors with a new member, the MAC231, with a continuous power of up to 320 W and peak power of 750 W.
Motors for harsh environments
JVL has developed a new addition to its mini MAC series, the MAC320. With its 320 W RMS power, it is the most powerful integrated motor in the NEMA23 size. The target application is high-performance positioning in a small all-in-one package. Other new features mean that even with CANopen or Ethernet communications, it is possible to run an ePLC (embedded PLC) program in the background.
New absolute multiturn encoder
A very important option is the new generation of absolute multiturn encoders based on the Wiegand principle (harvesting principle), where no battery or gearbox is required. The position range is ±262144 motor revolutions (±2^18).
Main features
- Twice the power - but SAME size as MAC101 (100 W)
- Very high torque to volume ratio
- Dedicated brushless DC motor for OEM applications
- 750 W peak power based on peak torque from 0 to 3.000 rpm
- Recommended supply voltage 48 VDC from power supply or battery pack
- Absolute multiturn encoder option. No battery or equipment required
- Use JVL standard expansion modules for Ethernet, CAN bus and PLC applications
- Option for STO connection
- Ø10 mm shaft (Ø14 mm with gearhead) for higher torque and performance
What's new?
- Absolute multiturn encoder based on harvesting technology without battery or gearbox
- Ethernet with high performance, similar to the larger MAC Motors
- New MOSFET technology for higher efficiency and cooler motor
- Encoder resolution 8192 CPR (higher resolutions planned).
- Options: STO, Safe-Torque-Off
- More advanced FOC filter for lower noise and better motor performance
Not recommended for
- Applications that require precise or consistent speed at low speeds due to the high cogging torque of the motor
- Applications that require more than 320 W S3 at 25% duty cycle
Industrial Ethernet
When using Industrial Ethernet, functionality and handling are similar for all supported protocols: Profinet, EtherNet/IP, Sercos, EtherCAT, Powerlink and Modbus TCP/UDP. With JVL's universal MacTalk software, you can even switch between the different Ethernet protocols by simply performing a firmware update - at no extra charge and you can do this as often as you like. All Ethernet modules have a built-in Ethernet switch that simplifies cabling: you can daisy-chain Ethernet cables from motor to motor.
Graphical programming
In standalone applications, the ePLC graphical programming environment will undoubtedly please users, according to JVL. Writing embedded PLC programs is very easy and can even be done by end users. One does not have to be an experienced PLC programmer to create ePLC programs: The symbol-based graphical programming environment does the work for you. Simply click on the desired command icon and the program line is created for you. Programming is similar for all integrated motor families: QuickStep, ServoStep and MAC Motor.
Regardless of the number of I/O points in the actual motor, any digital input, output, and analog input can be used in the program: You can query single or multiple input conditions and branch to other parts of your program accordingly. Motion commands are available with various types of relative or absolute motion. Jumps and IF commands, timers and other functions are available as well as register calculations. All registers and parameters in the motor can be accessed and most can be changed as needed. With a suitable color touch control panel (HMI), operators can enter values and parameters into the motor and monitor operation.
