Frequency converters

SD4S, SD4M and SD4B Series with New Variants and Functions

Sieb & Meyer has further expanded its SD4x product family and introduced the new variants and features of the SD4S, SD4B and SD4M series. The innovative frequency converters for high-speed applications offer numerous advantages for users, for example, optimized performance, higher speeds and lower motor heating without additional sine-wave filters.

Amongst other products, Sieb & Meyer will exhibit the SD4S in numerous sizes of the 50 V, 230 V and 400 V class. The Lueneburg based experts for control and drive technology used the available processor performance of the new devices to increase the output frequency of synchronous motors up to 4,000 Hz and of asynchronous motors up to 6,000 Hz as well as for new control functions. As a result, the devices optimally operate synchronous motors with magnets embedded in the rotor, so-called interior permanent magnet motors (IPM). The reluctance torque generated by these motors is optimized in real-time depending on the operating point. Thanks to the available communication interfaces – CANopen, Modbus RTU/TCP, EtherCAT, Powerlink and Profinet IO – users can optimally integrate the devices in various application fields.

The Sieb & Meyer three-level converters of series SD4M reveal their strengths in the field of turbo compressors and turbo blowers. These systems benefit from the low motor heating combined with the high system efficiency. At a 24/7 full-load operation, the latter causes noticeable energy savings and short payback periods. In addition, the overall system can be produced at lower costs and with a more compact construction volume because motor chokes and sine-wave filters are not necessary. SD4M also offers the function for controlling IPM motors. The different device variants are available with AC or DC supply and cover a power range of 70..500 kVA. Thereby, the DC versions are suited to generator applications such as flywheel or micro gas turbines.

The exceptionally compact SD4B is designed as high-dynamic servo amplifier for the operation of rotary and linear low-voltage servo motors but it is also suited to the optimized operation of high-speed low-voltage synchronous and asynchronous motors. In the high-speed range, the successor of SD2B plus allows a sensor-based operation of motors with superimposed synchronization function using 24 V synchronization signals. This way, the device can operate several high-speed motors with angular synchronism via master/slave connection, which is useful, for example, in the field of optical system applications. The robust speed control can also cope with high mass inertia ratios of up to 1:100 between motor and tool.

Acoustic resonance testing for quality control

Acoustic resonance testing for quality control

In industrial manufacturing, resonant testing is often used in the end-of-line test, allowing clear pass-fail decisions and detecting defects for consequently excluding rejects from production lines. Optical vibration sensors like laser vibrometers provide a non-contact and high precision way for determining the resonance frequency and provide significant advantages for quality control.
