Communication of position, vibration, humidity and temperature

Sick is currently presenting new variants of the compact high-precision motor feedback system EDS/EDM35. The tried-and-tested standard variants of the absolute position, speed and temperature measurement system, which has successfully established itself in high-end servo motor applications, are supplemented by variants with additional sensors for monitoring vibration behavior and humidity. The EDS/EDM35 motor feedback system thus opens up extensive options for real-time condition monitoring of motors and drive axles.

The EDS/EDM35 product family - with a vibration and humidity sensor integrated for the first time in this size and the purely digital single-cable technology Hiperface DSL - makes servo motors smarter. It combines highly accurate and technically and economically efficient speed and position measurement in real time. Without additional wiring and installation effort, trends, behavior patterns and possible anomalies of servo motors and drive trains can be detected, used for condition monitoring and predictive maintenance functions, and unplanned machine downtimes can be avoided.

Vibration and humidity measurements make EDS/EDM35 a smart early warning system

In addition to the temperature monitoring already implemented in the standard versions, the recording of vibration behavior - as an indicator of possible ball bearing damage or imbalance - and the humidity - as an indication of possible leaks in the motor - makes the EDS/EDM35 motor feedback system a smart early warning system. The values measured in the interior of the motor are very precise. Possible damage to the motor can therefore be detected at an early stage. When it comes to vibration measurement, machines in heavy-duty use, for example in metal or wood processing or packaging machines, benefit from the condition monitoring functionality of the EDS/EDM35. Information about the humidity in the engine is of interest to manufacturers and operators of machines in the food and beverage industry and in moisture-sensitive applications, among others.

Visualize measurement data of the engine status

Transparency about the status of machines and servo motors helps to identify malfunctions and failure risks earlier, resolve them more quickly or reliably avoid them. With the EDS/EDM35, status data is reliably recorded and made available to the higher-level control system. The data can be visualized and can be used for the individual configuration of warning and alarm settings. This makes it possible to identify deviations from normal operation at an early stage and initiate measures.
