Twist-free and corrosion-resistant

Twist-free and corrosion-resistant

Two strong properties intelligently combined: Findling Wälzlager is now offering its twist-free ground inner rings as a stainless steel variant. This means that the component can now fully exploit its strengths in corrosive environments. The use of twist-free ground inner rings in conjunction with radial shaft seals prevents lubricants from escaping and extends the service life of the sealing lips.

"The challenge was to apply the twist-free grinding to the new material, as stainless steel made of AISI316 is significantly softer than the usual rolling bearing steel," explains Managing Director Klaus Findling. "We have found a brilliant solution for this: The stainless steel rings are first subjected to twist-free grinding. The stainless steel inner rings are then hardened by a specialized supplier using electrolytic plasma treatment, which ensures the unique properties of the rings. A hardness of over 70HRC can be achieved in this way."

Inner rings without twist-free machining are usually used as raceways in needle bearings when the shaft itself cannot be used as a raceway in certain applications or when larger axial displacements are to be made possible. Twist-free ground inner rings create perfect running surfaces for sealing lips, especially of radial shaft seals, and thus prevent lubricant from migrating or leaking. In addition, the abrasion of the sealing lip is reduced, which significantly extends its service life.

Special grinding process eliminates process-related "twist"

A special grinding process eliminates the process-related "twist" of the inner rings in classic "through-feed grinding", so that the shaft itself no longer has to be machined twist-free. Depending on the surface quality, a "superfinishing" process can also be used. This saves a complex additional manufacturing step, increases productivity and improves the cost-effectiveness of the entire assembly.

The twist-free ground inner rings from Findling are available in two performance classes, in the materials 100Cr6, AISI440C and AISI316L and in all standard sizes available on the market from 5 mm shaft diameter. Special sizes are available on request. The highly automated production process also enables cost-effective production of large quantities.
