Best work – no compromises
"You want to have everything you need and nothing to lose" is what people say in Switzerland when someone wants to have everything and at the same time not make any compromises. In Menzel Elektromotoren's contract business, for example, customers need an industrial motor in the shortest possible time, which normally requires six months of production time.
Secondly, the motor should also be custom-made. Menzel wouldn't be Menzel if they weren't willing to take on such challenges, as was recently the case with a fan motor for a privately run Algerian cement plant. The Berlin-based medium-sized company manufactured a robust replacement motor for a broken slip-ring motor within 13 weeks, which was then delivered to the site by express air freight.
A number of individual adjustments were required so that the new motor could smoothly replace the previously installed model. Menzel managed to reduce production time to a minimum by using components that were in stock and adapting them accordingly. The extremely robust 6-pole slip ring motor of the MEBSSL series (size 630) manufactured in this way has a nominal output of 1.950 kW, a nominal voltage of 11.000 V and a nominal torque of 18.754 Nm.
It is suitable for operation in both directions of rotation, has protection class IP55 and cooling type IC 611 (air-air heat exchanger). Menzel replicated the dimensions of the original motor that are crucial for interchangeability - shaft dimensions, mounting holes for foot mounting and positions of the terminal boxes – and also manufactured special terminal boxes according to customer specifications. Despite the high urgency, Menzel even implemented other special requirements of the demanding customer, such as the installation of a filter monitor and vibration sensors of a specific make, which must fit into the specified monitoring architecture.
The motor manufacturer impressed the client with its expert and continuous support, right up to support with commissioning on site. Before the contract was awarded, the cement manufacturer first visited the new Menzel engine plant with a delegation of several people, where they were received by top management, given detailed advice and shown around the production facility. Menzel was awarded the contract immediately afterwards.
