Pump drives in special format
Menzel Elektromotoren has manufactured two pump drives with greatly extended piping for the water supply in Angola.
The medium-sized company has once again proven itself to be a good partner for drive solutions from a single source. The pumps draw water from the Kwanza River and transport it over a distance of 17 km and 135 meters in altitude to a water treatment plant outside the gates of the capital Luanda. In the existing installation, the pumps are built into the pipes and cannot be uninstalled. The operator therefore commissioned complete pump systems including drive and connecting pipe. Menzel had already helped him out at other times with replacement motors that were completed at short notice.
In this case, the motor manufacturer impressed with tailor-made pump systems that could be easily replaced with the existing ones. Production took place at Pawils Elektromaschinenbau, a subsidiary of Menzel. The company, with its great craftsmanship and engineering expertise, procured the pumps in the right performance class, adapted the mechanical interfaces to the installation on site and assembled them with pipes and the motors, which were also designed specifically for the application.
The entire units are each approximately 12 m long. The pump systems each have a delivery capacity of 900 m³/min. The motors have a nominal output of 500 kW, a nominal voltage of 6000 V and a speed of 1475 min-1. Initially, two to three identical pump systems were replaced, while the third ensured the continued operation of the water supply. After successful commissioning, Menzel also expects the order for the third system.
