Filling the market gap

Filling the market gap

Menzel Elektromotoren fills a gap in the market with its range of pressurized Ex-p motors, as the medium-sized company configures these from components in stock with the shortest delivery times.

Menzel recently manufactured an Ex-p compressor motor for an internationally active Austrian chemical company within three weeks. The squirrel cage motor from the MEBKSW series was processed in a variety of ways to suit the application and installation location. The motor housing was designed with flushing flanges. This means that the motor can be flushed with a non-ignitable gas mixture before starting the motor in order to remove a potentially explosive atmosphere and to prevent the ingress of hazardous gases due to overpressure during operation.

The motor was given the marking II 3G Ex pzc IIB T3 Gc. Further work included: Conversion to cooling type IC 81W (water-cooled), mechanical adjustment of the size from 560 to 630, relocation of the terminal boxes, preparation of the star point terminal box for the installation of current transformers, adjustment of the connection flanges of the plain bearings, installation of vibration sensors. Menzel was already at the customer's factory before the order was placed to discuss details and record the installation situation, and also installed and commissioned the drive system.

Since 2023, Menzel has had TÜV certification for the production of squirrel cage motors in pressurized encapsulation type Ex p for Zone 1. The motor manufacturer can apply the manufacturing process to motors in stock in a wide power range and thus provide Ex-p motors of device categories 2G and 3G flexibly, quickly and competitively. The version is available for all voltage ranges and with air-air or air-water cooling (cooling types IC 611, IC 616 or IC 81W). The engines were named Product of the Year at the AEMT Awards 2023.
