Synchronous motors
More than energy efficient
According to the Federal Environment Agency, electric drives in industry and commerce consume almost two fifths of all electricity in Germany. There is therefore a large and economical potential for saving electricity, especially in electric drives and the units they drive. With its highly efficient IE5+ motors of the latest generation, the system provider Nord Drivesystems offers an optimal solution to significantly reduce energy and resource consumption.
The compact and highly efficient IE5+ permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) from NORD are characterized by a consistently high efficiency of up to 95% over a wide torque range and thus achieve optimal energy consumption performance even in partial load and partial speed ranges. "This means that the efficiency of our IE5+ motors significantly exceeds that of the highest defined energy efficiency class IE5," reports Jörg Niermann, Marketing Manager at Nord.
This also significantly reduces the energy requirements and CO2e emissions of an application. This makes a significant difference, especially in large systems with long operating times of the electric drives, for example in intralogistics with many installed drives. "However, our IE5+ motor technology is about much more than just energy efficiency," continues Niermann. "We see it as a holistic concept that goes beyond simply considering efficiency."
Sustainability factor: material efficiency
The compact IE5+ permanent magnet synchronous motors from NORD also impress with their innovative design and require a comparatively small amount of material. NORD designed the IE5+ motor as an 8-pole synchronous motor in IPM design. This reduces the size of the active motor parts, which means material savings not only in the laminated core, but also in the magnets.
In 8-pole synchronous motors, the stator can also be manufactured in the so-called single-tooth winding. This means that valuable material such as copper is only installed where it is productive, and inefficient use in the winding head has been reduced. "Our IE5+ synchronous motor combines energy efficiency with material efficiency and can therefore score twice in terms of sustainability," emphasizes Niermann. "This also applies to our DuoDrive, which combines the IE5+ motor with a single-stage spur gear in one housing."
Nord as a system provider
When it comes to energy saving potential, the entire drive system, including the electric motor, gearbox and drive electronics, must always be taken into account. The highly efficient IE5+ motors can be combined with various components from the NORD modular system - this creates optimally coordinated and needs-based system solutions from a single source. This makes it possible to increase the overall efficiency of machines and systems and reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO).
With the Nord ECO service, Nord's drive experts also offer an effective tool for uncovering savings potential in a system and minimizing a company's carbon footprint. "Ultimately, we want to enable users to make the best possible use of the advantages of our drive systems," summarizes Niermann. “To ensure this is successful, we support our customers from the conception through the construction phase to commissioning.”
