Robot transfer units (RTU) for medical technology and the pharmaceutical industry

Rollon’s robot transfer unit (RTU), based on the Clean Room System ONE, offers space-saving technology for precise, highly dynamic positioning in the clean room. The modular traversing solutions fulfill the most stringent standards for hygiene, performance and reliability, and can be custom tailored to the individual customer application. An ideal solution for medical technology and the pharmaceutical industry.

Specializing in linear motion systems and with many years of experience in medical technology and the pharmaceutical industry, Rollon is familiar with the challenges of the sector and implements linear traversing axes that fully meet stringent clean room requirements. The robot transfer units (RTU), which operate with minimal particle emissions and are certified for Class 1 clean rooms, are available with a large selection of anti-corrosion treatments. In addition, they feature high repeatability (0.05 mm) and allow traversing speeds of up to 5 m/s, as well as accelerations of up to 50 m/s2.

Clean Room System ONE: Certified for clean room applications

The RTUs are based on the Clean Room System ONE. The product family comprises linear actuators that were specially developed for use in clean rooms. Made of aluminum and stainless steel, they are designed to prevent the emission of articles into the environment where they are installed. They are driven by a high-quality polyurethane AT-profile toothed belt. The actuators are rustproof, corrosion-proof, require little maintenance and minimal lubrication. These features guarantee a one-hundred percent clean application.

The Clean Room System ONE is available in four sizes (50, 65, 80 and 110). The maximum stroke is 6,000 mm (with the exception of size 50, which has a maximum stroke of 3,700). The length of the traversing axes can be extended by connecting multiple profiles, which enables a virtually unlimited robot or cobot range. The modular mechanical system includes all necessary components in addition to extensive accessories, for fast and convenient mounting.

Lab automation with traversing axes

Whether for handling of samples, containers, test tubes or materials, production of syringes, vials and contact lenses, material transport between machines, or efficient picking: Rollon’s robot transfer unit brings lab automation to the next level. It combines the best of robotics and linear technology to open up new potentials for efficiency. The robot transfer unit makes the robot or cobot more flexible, and the actuator is faster, with a longer range. In addition to having the application diversity of the robot available, combining the two allows economical use of the robot at multiple work stations. Especially applications with long cycle times benefit from the additional degree of freedom. In general, longer process ranges save the user more by combining a robot with an actuator, compared to the use of two or more single robots.

The clean room compatible traversing axes are suitable for all robots and cobots – regardless of the manufacturer or robot type – and can carry and move small and medium-sized robots or cobots in automated processes. Rollon has special expertise in custom solutions. All systems are designed individually and adapted to the particular application.
