High-performance heat transfer for power electronics increasingly in demand
Increasing performance with smaller sizes makes thermal management crucial for long-lasting electronics, especially in e-mobility and energy storage.
At this year's PCIM, CTX is presenting high-performance heat sinks for the current requirements of power electronics. The increasing performance combined with smaller sizes makes thermal management an increasingly important factor for long-lasting electronics. This can be seen, among other things, in e-mobility and energy storage.
“E-Mobility & Energy Storage” is one of the topics at PCIM 2025, which will take place in Nuremberg from May 6 to 8. Power electronics is considered a key technology for the performance of these two trend topics. With its heat sink portfolio, CTX shows how these are significantly determined by precisely fitting cooling solutions at Booth 321 in Hall 6.
Efficient cooling concepts for battery charging
CTX high performance heat sinks, for example, are used in e-mobility applications and literally ensure a high level of heat transfer. In charging stations or wall boxes, power electronics ensure that the battery of an electric vehicle is charged quickly and safely. This generates high temperatures. Heat pipes quickly dissipate these in high quantities. Their functional principle is based on a closed pipe system with a cooling medium. The cooling concept allows for installation in almost any position and is therefore particularly suitable for confined spaces. In the battery itself, liquid cooling heat sinks ensure that the temperature of the electronics remains balanced. Aluminum plates with embedded copper tubes are mounted directly at the hot spot. This allows them to dissipate up to 25 percent more heat than fan-based cooling concepts, making them one of the most powerful cooling solutions.
Aluminum ensures good heat conduction and corrosion resistance
High-performance heat sinks from CTX are also used in energy storage. Solar systems, for example, can benefit from the cost-effective die casting process. This shaping manufacturing process allows heat sinks with complex geometries to be produced at low unit costs. They are made of aluminum and thus have high thermal conductivity, are lightweight and corrosion resistant. For inverters, CTX offers, among other things, high-performance heat sinks with high fin density, as they are produced, for example, using the skived-fin process. Here, the very fine fins of the heat sink are scraped directly from an aluminum or copper block. Since there is no manufacturing-related transition between the heat sink base and the fins, cooling solutions are created without thermal resistance.
With its wide range of different manufacturing processes and cooling concepts, the CTX portfolio is among the leading in Europe. In Nuremberg, visitors can see for themselves how the company designs customized cooling solutions for all areas of power electronics and individually adapts them to the respective requirements.
