Gearboxes

Customized gear solutions for automation and robotics

SPN Schwaben Präzision is a technology-independent drive designer with its own high-performance manufacturing facility. With state-of-the-art technologies and a strong focus on innovation, SPN is able to set decisive trends for the future: in terms of higher quality, greater flexibility, and above all, increased productivity. From June 24 to 27, 2025, SPN Schwaben Präzision will be presenting its gear solutions at automatica (Hall B6, Booth 114A) in Munich.

Short cycle times, robust technology, wear-free surfaces, and compact designs have always been important for automation and robotics solutions. SPN has the expertise and production facilities to design and manufacture gear technology that meets extensive requirements in a compact, technology-independent manner and precisely tailored to customer needs. The selection of the right gear size, the optimal bearing arrangement of the axes, and the lubrication and sealing system have a major impact on the service life of the drives. The high level of integration of the drives not only saves space but also weight, which leads to improved efficiency of the overall system.

SPN takes into account application areas in difficult environmental conditions such as clean room requirements, low humidity, or corrosion and acid resistance in battery or fuel cell production when designing customized gearboxes.

Gearbox exhibits for automation

At this year's Automatica, SPN will be showcasing various gear solutions from the fields of robotics and automation. The solutions will be complemented by a trade fair stand with information on field test monitoring using SPN Drive Monitoring. You can also expect some technical insights into gear technology. Specifically for the field of robotics, SPN will demonstrate to visitors the advantages offered by its gear and drive solutions in terms of backlash, rigidity, and customized installation space optimization.

The exhibits will include a hand axis for articulated arm robots, a spur gear planetary gear combination for an earth auger, and a swivel unit for automation solutions.

The trade fair exhibits will be complemented by an innovative solution for precise, cost-efficient torque monitoring in gearboxes, featuring an interactive, easy-to-understand, and clear model that can be tried out directly on site.

SPN thus demonstrates its expertise in the development of customer-specific gearboxes, the monitoring and evaluation of field tests, and series delivery in a state-of-the-art production facility. Digital support and evaluation of field tests provides faster and more comprehensive information about the field test and the series durability of the drives, enabling a development process that conserves resources as much as possible. The SPN Drive Monitoring System can also be used prior to the development of a gearbox to analyze real load data in a drive train. With real load data, the gearbox size can be tailored even more precisely to the application, resulting in cost and resource savings.

Another sustainable solution from SPN Schwaben Präzision is the SPN swivel unit. This replaces a pneumatic swivel unit in the automotive industry for clamping, gripping, and transferring components. The electromechanical drive not only offers a wider range of functions, it also saves the process air and process energy required to operate the systems. Replacing pneumatic drives with electromechanical drives from SPN can make a significant contribution to reducing the amount of process energy required.

SPN expertise for customized drive solutions

The basis for technically high-performance and economically efficient implementation at SPN Schwaben Präzision is access to a wide range of proven system components.

Building on this, SPN Schwaben Präzision is able to combine proven quality with a long service life and keep time and cost expenditure within limits.

Its proven expertise in the field of gearing and gearbox design spans multiple industries, offering customers the opportunity to benefit from the knowledge SPN has gained from its development work for other sectors.

SPN develops gearbox solutions for a wide range of industries, including:

  • (driverless) transport systems
  • Machinery and plant engineering
  • Aviation
  • Automation
  • Food technology
  • Energy technology
  • Textile industry
  • Packaging systems

From June 24 to 27, 2025, SPN Schwaben Präzision will be presenting its gear solutions at automatica (Hall B6, Booth 114A) in Munich.
