SL00-R-GS80 draw-wire sensor from FSG – compact, robust, precise

The new SL00-R draw-wire sensor model developed by FSG combines robustness with a slim, compact design. Other well-thought-out details offer users a high degree of flexibility when installing this precise length measuring device – and it is also inexpensive.

With the new SL00-R-GS80 draw-wire sensor, FSG has succeeded in developing a robust model that is flexible in use thanks to its compact design. The narrow housing is made of V2A stainless steel and offers protection against UV rays, rain, and moisture. It also has drainage holes on all sides for effective drainage: rainwater cannot accumulate inside, so corrosion has no chance. The “80” in the type designation stands for the size 80 x 80 mm: this means that the cable pull sensor can also be installed in places where space is limited and where durability and resistance are important. The cable length is up to 3 meters.

Further advantages and features of the SL00-R-GS80: The return spring is 50% stronger than in the SL00 BASIC series models, on which the new model is based. FSG chose stainless steel for the housing material: It offers greater flexibility in terms of customer requirements and, as a result, the SL00-R is more robust.

Wide range of options for mounting and attachments

During development by FSG, the focus was on maximum flexibility during installation. This is achieved primarily by several mounting points on the housing, which allow the device to be installed in different positions. In addition, the cable pull can be realized in virtually any desired direction in combination with the 360° deflection roller from FSG. Another special feature and unique selling point of the SL00-R series is the rotary encoder mounting on both sides, which allows the cable to be pulled out from both the left and right. This opens up a wide range of application possibilities for users in their projects.

“In practice, the new rope pull sensor has met with great interest for applications such as support beams in mobile cranes,” explains Phillip Bender, Product Manager at FSG. Before the crane goes into action, the support beams are extended – and the FSG device measures this distance. Using the data from all the support beams, the crane can calculate how far each load can be moved while guaranteeing a stable and secure position.

The cable pull sensor can be combined with various encoder types. It is perfectly matched to FSG's own rotary encoders, but also offers high performance and precision when equipped with standard sensors from other manufacturers. This is particularly interesting for FSG's OEM customers: the wide range of adapters in the FSG portfolio, which allow many rotary encoders from different manufacturers to be used, makes the SL00-R a very flexible device. FSG encoders can be used to implement the 4-20 mA, 0.5 V-4.5 V / 0-10 V, CANopen / Canopen-safety and Profinet interfaces, with a wide range of others available from third-party encoders.

The SL00-R-GS80 shows its strengths wherever precise measurement data needs to be recorded, the working environment requires a robust design, or compact dimensions are important. And it does so in many industrial sectors – not only in mobile machines, but also in automation, logistics, agricultural technology, and forestry.
