Drive controller for high-speed and precision applications

Whether grinding, milling, screwing, or compacting – Sieb & Meyer drive controllers cover a wide range of power ratings from a few hundred watts up to 500 kW. They enable the reliable drive of high-speed motors and servo drives, optimized for different industrial requirements. Thanks to modern control technology, compact designs, and application-specific functions, they offer versatile application possibilities, even in demanding environments.

Compact powerhouses for precise high-speed drives

Application: Dental milling machines: The SD4B / SD4S frequency converters with an output power of 0.2 to 3 kW ensure precise drive control of high-speed motors – including in dental milling machines. Their compact design allows them to be used even in confined spaces, while the high switching frequency means that in many cases a choke is not required. This not only saves installation space, but also makes installation much easier. Numerous integrated features such as a fieldbus interface, STO, and tool monitoring increase efficiency and safety. Another advantage is that the same hardware controls both asynchronous and synchronous motors, allowing different spindles to be operated without encoders and synchronously if required.

Reliable drive for high-speed spindles

Application: Jewelry and watch manufacturing: The SD4B / SD4S frequency converters with a power output of 0.3 to 6 kW ensure reliable drive of high-speed milling, drilling, and grinding spindles – for example, in jewelry and watch manufacturing. Thanks to their compact design, the converters can also be easily integrated into confined working environments. The high switching frequency ensures low motor heating and correspondingly higher machining quality. In addition, the use of a choke is unnecessary in many cases. The converters also offer numerous integrated features such as a fieldbus interface, STO, and tool monitoring. The same hardware controls both asynchronous and synchronous motors, which can be used to operate various spindles without encoders and synchronously if required.

SD4S frequency converter for demanding dicing applications

Application: Dicing: The SD4S frequency converter with a power range of 1.5 to 2.5 kW enables the drive of air-bearing high-precision spindles with speeds of up to 60,000 rpm. Sieb & Meyer thus provides users with a high-tech solution for the technically demanding operation of 4- and 6-pole spindles in dicing applications. Hall sensors on the spindles can be evaluated for precise control. In addition, the SD4S also supports standard SVC operation.

SD2S / SD4S servo amplifiers for screwdriving applications

Application: Screws: The SD2S / SD4S servo amplifiers with a power range of 1 to 6 kW enable precise drive control of screw spindles. They offer highly accurate current and torque control for servo motors, thereby ensuring precise power transmission during the screwdriving process. The combination of compact design and high overload capacity with a rated to peak current ratio of 1:5 allows them to be used in demanding applications. In addition, the servo amplifiers support the evaluation of various encoder systems and can be customized to customer specifications.

SD2 / SD4S frequency converters for grinding applications

Application: Grinding: The SD2 / SD4S frequency converters with a power range of 2 to 20 kW (up to 45 kW in individual cases) enable the precise drive of grinding spindles for internal and external grinding. Thanks to the high switching frequency, an additional choke is often not required. The converters are designed for various motor technologies – asynchronous and synchronous motors – and allow sensorless operation of grinding spindles, including synchronous spindles. Integrated features such as a fieldbus interface, STO, sensorless speed and standstill monitoring, and tool monitoring ensure high operational reliability and process control. In machines with multiple spindles, a multi-axis system ensures optimized energy distribution, thereby improving the efficiency of the application.

SD4M frequency converter for high-speed milling spindles

Application: Milling/HSC: The SD4M frequency converter with a power range of 50 to 70 kW (up to 205 kW in planning) is designed for driving high-speed milling spindles. The three-level technology used (the M in the type designation stands for multi-level) reduces harmonic current components (ripple current), significantly lowering converter-related rotor losses. The compact design facilitates integration into machines, while the high switching frequency in many cases eliminates the need for a choke. In addition, the converter offers extensive features, including a fieldbus interface, STO, and tool monitoring. The SD4M is specially designed to operate large spindles with high frequencies and power ratings safely and with low losses, making it ideal for demanding milling and HSC applications.

SD2 servo amplifier for use in presses

Application: Pressing: The SD2 servo amplifier with a power range of 10 to 120 kW enables precise drive control of servo motors in presses. Precise current and torque control ensures uniform and controlled force application. The SD2 offers users a compact design and high overload capacity (rated to peak current ratio of 1:5). In addition, the servo amplifier supports the evaluation of various encoder systems and can be adapted to specific customer requirements.

SD2M frequency converter for turbo compressors and compressors

Application: Turbo compressors: The SD2M frequency converter with a power range of 50 to 500 kW is specially designed for driving high-speed motors in turbo compressors and compressors. The three-level technology used reduces harmonic current components (ripple current), thereby significantly lowering converter-related rotor losses. This results in less motor heating, improves efficiency, and enables maximum efficiency in the overall system. Its compact design facilitates integration into different applications, while the high switching frequency in many cases eliminates the need for a choke. In addition, the SD2M supports a wide range of motor designs, enabling flexible adaptation to specific requirements.
