Easy integration, increased security and functionality

Emerson has introduced the new PACSystems RX3i CPS400 safety controller, designed to implement Safety Integrity Level 2 (SIL2) strategies for infrastructure, fire and gas monitoring, burner management systems, and other emergency shutdown systems. The PACSystems safety controller is a compact, high-performance solution with robust safety features and a scalable architecture with 2,000 available I/O points, making it ideal for complex projects with constantly evolving requirements.

As project automation becomes increasingly sophisticated and data-driven, OEMs and system integrators need a range of more powerful hardware and software products to ensure compliance with standards and regulations to protect workers, whether they are working on a single piece of equipment or distributed across a much larger process.

With a large 64-megabyte memory capacity and a scalable digital architecture, the PACSystems safety controller supports a wide variety of business-critical applications. With integrated industrial communication protocols, including OPC UA, Ethernet Global Data (EGD), and Modbus TCP, the RX3i CPS400 controller is prepared for peer-to-peer connections and connections to higher-level hosts, providing complete operational transparency.

As a secure-by-design solution with Secure Boot and the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) standard, the new controller offers high data integrity and protection against potential threats. Security-certified function blocks and pre-configured templates simplify overall system certification according to the IEC 61511 standard.

The RX3i CPS400 controller is available in simplex or redundant configurations and can execute all safety data messages with duplex communication using the black channel principle via EGD, enabling a standardized and reliable connection to Emerson's PACSystems VersaMax SafetyNet I/O system. The platform is IEC 61508 safety-certified and offers a powerful, simplified SIL2 solution that helps developers create appropriate protection concepts.

Developers can configure the new controller using the familiar software tools used for programmable logic controllers (PLCs), operator interfaces, and other automation elements: Emerson's PAC Machine Edition development environment. As a unified toolchain with a user-friendly interface, the PAC Machine Edition suite streamlines development effort, enabling users to easily create complete and integrated automation, visualization, and safety solutions for rapid commissioning and maximum operational efficiency.

"With the addition of the PACSystems RX3i CPS400 safety controller to our extensive portfolio of safety products, we continue to provide our customers with the tools they need to develop compliant safety systems that integrate seamlessly into complex automation solutions," said Daniel Smith, Senior Product Manager for Discrete Automation at Emerson.
