Janitza is expanding its product portfolio with the new JUG 25 Universal Gateway. This gateway bridges the communication gap between Modbus and MQTT, enabling companies to easily integrate measuring devices into their IoT systems.

With the JUG 25 Universal Gateway, Janitza introduces a product that connects Modbus-enabled UMG devices to MQTT brokers. Mounted on a DIN rail, the JUG 25 translates Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP into MQTT. Additionally, it can function as a Modbus converter, transforming Modbus RTU into Modbus TCP. This allows existing Modbus devices to be integrated into an MQTT-based IoT infrastructure without the need to replace installed measuring equipment.

Efficient Integration and Communication

The JUG 25 enables companies to easily implement new energy and IoT projects. It facilitates the next level of energy management by seamlessly integrating existing measuring devices. Installed units remain fully operational and do not require replacement, saving both time and costs.

Transparency and data availability are significantly improved, as the JUG 25 effortlessly connects measuring devices to cloud platforms, dashboards, and data lakes.

Use Cases for the JUG 25

The JUG 25 is primarily used as an IoT gateway. It enables communication between Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP slave devices and an MQTT broker. For high-performance applications, the gateway can transmit 1,000 measured values from up to 10 devices in a single communication cycle. Data acquired via Modbus is published to user-defined MQTT topics.

TLS/SSL encryption for MQTT communication ensures a secure connection and reliable data transmission. In the event of brief communication interruptions between the gateway and the MQTT broker (excluding power outages), RAM-based buffering ensures data integrity. In addition, the JUG 25 can operate as a Modbus RTU to Modbus TCP converter. In this application, the JUG 25 integrates legacy RTU devices; it acts as a Modbus TCP client and converts incoming requests into the RTU protocol.

Bridging the communication gap

The JUG 25 universal gateway seamlessly connects Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU, and MQTT systems. This allows users to integrate existing measuring devices into modern IoT infrastructures without needing to replace them. This saves time, costs, and resources while preparing systems for future requirements.
