Safety
Designed for safe, intelligent drive solutions
With the introduction of the new dSafe product line, Dunkermotoren aims to set a milestone in the development of safe, intelligent drive solutions.
The new high-end motor control platform expands the existing portfolio (dGo, dMove, dPro) with comprehensive safety functions such as secure communication and safe motion profiles, which are fully integrated into the BG75 and BG95 series motors.
Maximum safety – minimum effort
dSafe complies with international safety standards such as IEC 61800, IEC 13849, IEC 62061, and IEC 61508 and offers functions such as Safe Torque Off (STO), Safe Stop (SS1), Safely Limited Speed (SLS), Safe Brake Control (SBC), and Safe Communication (FSoE, PROFIsafe). This integration not only reduces hardware costs, but also greatly simplifies the safety assessment for machine builders.
Versatile areas of application
dSafe technology is ideal for applications in industrial automation, robotics, warehouse logistics, access systems, and packaging machines. Especially in mobile robots (AGVs/AMRs), dSafe enables flexible, online-configurable instances with multiple safety limits – for example, to secure driving functions, lifting mechanisms, or grippers. The “Safe Limited Speed” (SLS) function enables automatic speed monitoring. If the defined maximum speed is exceeded and there are people or obstacles in the vicinity, the drive can be switched to torque-free mode via STO (Safe Torque Off) – a significant contribution to functional safety in collaborative operation.
dSafe also offers clear advantages in stationary industrial applications: In setup mode, SLS can be used to monitor reduced speeds in order to perform maintenance or setup procedures safely. In addition, “Safe Limited Position” (SLP) can be used to set up defined safety zones that specifically restrict the movement range of axes or tools.
Another plus point: The hard wiring of “Safe Torque Off” (STO) is no longer necessary, as the shutdown is performed safely via the fieldbus – e.g., FSoE. This saves on wiring costs, increases flexibility in machine layout, and simplifies integration into modern control architectures.
Economic benefits for customers
Integrating the safety functions directly into the motor results in significant savings potential:
- Less engineering effort
- Reduced cabling
- Shorter commissioning times
- Lower hardware costs
- Lower total cost of ownership (TCO)
Future-proof and modular
Thanks to its support for EtherCAT/FSoE and Profinet/Profisafe, dSafe is ideal for efficient safety architecture. The solution is scalable, future-proof, and offers maximum performance for demanding applications.
