High data throughput

The two new fanless managed switches TSW202 and TSW212 from Teltonika, a Lithuanian-based specialist for Industrial Ethernet IE, are optimized for a data throughput of up to 20 Gbit/s. The TSW202 also impresses with PoE+. Both are suitable for demanding applications in image processing and industrial automation. Operation is possible at all voltage levels from 7 to 57 volts, from -40…+75 °C. Efco in Deggendorf, an accredited sales and service partner of Teltonika, is already able to deliver.

The TSW202 is the first managed PoE+ switch from Teltonika, which not only offers granular network management functions, but also centralizes the power distribution of peripheral devices, making it more efficient. The fanless device supports MRP, Profinet and EtherNet/IP and can process jumbo frames of up to 10,000 bytes. Both switches can be integrated into the Teltonika RMS (Remote Management System). This allows the firmware to be updated centrally, for example.

The two SFP ports enable a direct 20 Gbit/s high-speed connection to backbones. The eight Gigabit Ethernet ports each provide up to 30 W to power cameras and other peripheral devices. This makes the TSW202 ideal for demanding tasks in image processing and industrial automation. Thanks to the integrated DIN rail adapter, installation in the control cabinet is no challenge.

The TSW212 uses the hardware platform of the TSW202, but does not offer PoE. Both devices are managed L2 switches with additional L3 functions, such as DHCPv6 client support or static IPv6 routing for better network management. Like the TSW202, the TSW212 also has eight Gigabit Ethernet ports and two SFP ports for robust, long-range fiber optic communication. Both support all common industrial protocols such as EtherNet/IP, Profinet or MRP.

The devices have a wide-range input for DC supply voltages between 7 and 57 V. The internal consumption is a maximum of 8 watts. When the TSW202 is used in PoE+ mode, it requires a supply voltage between 44 and 57 V DC with a maximum power consumption of 250 W.

The new managed switches from Teltonika are housed in a shock- and impact-resistant aluminum housing with protection class IP30. They can be used in a temperature range of -40…+75 °C. The holder for the top-hat rail is integrated in the housing and thus allows easy installation in the control cabinet, especially since all connections are on the front. An additional grounding screw on the back completes the equipment. Alternatively, the devices, which weigh around 600 grams, can also be attached to the wall.

Both devices use the popular RutOS, which itself is based on the OpenWRT Linux system. The router software can be updated via RutOS without losing the current configuration. It goes without saying that both the TSW202 and the TSW212 offer state-of-the-art security features.

Efco, Teltonika's accredited sales and service partner since summer 2023, is one of the first companies in Europe to be equipped with samples of the new managed switch generation. These are therefore available in small quantities at short notice. With this collaboration, Teltonika is taking into account the fact that modern IE end devices offer increasingly complex functions - and thus their optimal and resource-saving use is not always obvious to automation engineers. Or in other words: the former "install and forget" switches are increasingly becoming active communication devices that can take on additional functions up to and including EDGE tasks.
