Servo motors
Simplifies the integration of decentralized BLDC drives
Not every motion task in a machine requires a complex servo application. Conveyor rollers, pumps, fans, or auxiliary axes often simply require reliable and reproducible speed control. Yet, elaborate drive concepts involving separate controllers, additional wiring, and complex commissioning are frequently employed for these tasks. With the new dGo motor family, Dunkermotoren now offers an intelligent alternative specifically for these applications.
As a new entry-level solution within the Smart Motor platform, dGo complements the existing dCore, dMove, and dPro product families. This provides machine builders with a seamless and fully compatible drive platform that scales from simple speed-controlled applications to demanding positioning tasks—without the need to switch motor families.
The concept focuses on consistently simplifying machine architecture. These brushless DC motors feature integrated commutation electronics, thereby handling functions that are performed by external controllers in conventional systems. This reduces the number of required components and wiring effort while significantly simplifying machine integration.
"Many machine builders do not need the complexity of a fully programmable servo drive for every motion axis," explains Michael Burgert, Product Manager at Dunkermotoren. "With dGo, we focus on the exact functions actually required in many applications: reliable BLDC performance, simple control, and fast, cost-effective integration."
Less complexity, greater efficiency
Modern automation systems feature numerous auxiliary axes whose sole function is stable speed control. Using high-performance servo controllers for such applications often results in higher costs, additional engineering effort, and longer commissioning times, without providing any practical added value.
The dGo motors fill precisely this gap. Depending on the specific model, the speed is set via the supply voltage, an analog signal, or PWM signals. Functions such as start, stop, or change of rotation direction can be controlled directly via digital inputs and outputs. Since no fieldbus communication is required for this, the motors can be easily integrated using standard PLC I/Os or simple control logic.
Machine manufacturers benefit from this approach, particularly in decentralized drive concepts. The necessary intelligence is built directly into the motor, reducing the need for central control components and enabling more compact machine designs.
Three series for diverse requirements
The dGo family comprises the BGA 22 dGo, BG 42 dGo, and BG 45 dGo series. This ensures a suitable solution is available for a wide range of power requirements and installation scenarios.
The compact BGA 22 dGo is particularly well-suited for applications with limited installation space. Thanks to its ironless design, the motor operates with exceptional smoothness and consistency. Cogging torque is eliminated, resulting in outstandingly smooth running and low noise levels. With a continuous power output of up to 24 watts and peak power of up to 236 watts, it offers an ideal solution for compact applications with moderate power demands.
The BG 42 dGo is available for more demanding tasks. With a diameter of 42 millimeters, it delivers up to 96 watts of continuous power and up to 214 watts of peak power. Integrated four-quadrant control enables controlled acceleration, braking, and directional changes in both directions of rotation. This makes the motor an excellent choice for conveyor systems, transport lines, and other applications involving frequent reversing.
The BG 45 dGo extends the concept by offering a particularly robust motor platform for industrial use. With protection ratings up to IP65 and versatile mounting options, this motor is suitable even for challenging environmental conditions. At the same time, the dGo family’s simple operating philosophy remains fully intact.
Custom-configurable for OEM applications
A key advantage of the dGo platform is its adaptability. For OEM customers, numerous operating parameters can be factory-adjusted to suit the specific application. These include fixed speeds, defined acceleration and deceleration ramps, current limits, and digital output functions.
Furthermore, for larger projects, custom functional sequences can be programmed directly into the motor electronics. Examples include stall detection, autonomous motion sequences, and speed-dependent current limiting. Relocating such functions to the drive itself reduces the need for additional control hardware and the machinery architecture becomes leaner and more cost-effective overall.
Ideal for conveyor technology, pumps, and auxiliary axes
Typical applications for dGo motors are found wherever reliable speed control is required. Conveyor systems, roller conveyors, pumps, fans, sorting systems, and decentralized auxiliary axes benefit from the easy integration and low-maintenance operation of brushless technology.
BLDC technology offers significant advantages, particularly for systems with long operating times. Eliminating brushes reduces wear and maintenance requirements while simultaneously ensuring high energy efficiency and a long service life.
Scalable drive solutions within a single platform
With the introduction of dGo, Dunkermotoren is expanding its modular motion platform to include a cost-effective entry-level solution for speed-controlled applications. This allows machine builders to select the exact functionality their application requires and—should demands increase—upgrade to dMove or dPro within the same platform.
By integrating commutation electronics directly into the motor, dGo reduces system complexity, simplifies installation, and lowers the machine's total costs. At the same time, users benefit from proven BLDC technology and the flexibility of a scalable drive platform.
The result is a compact, reliable solution for conveyor technology, pumps, fans, and numerous other decentralized motion tasks where precise, cost-effective speed control is paramount.
