Height-adjustable desks are experiencing a real boom and have become an indispensable part of modern office environments. More and more people are relying on these desks to work more ergonomically and healthily. The market also shows this: Over the last three years, sales of adjustable desks have increased significantly and, according to forecasts, will increase by an average of 5 percent every year until 2028.

This increasing demand reflects a growing awareness of the health benefits of mobile working. A dynamic workplace that allows switching between sitting and standing positions also increases productivity and general well-being. However, these movements are usually not so good for the cables to the computer, monitor or telephone. Because they either get tangled, get caught in your feet or, in the worst case, they bend. An orderly cable routing is therefore essential.

When straight, the OfficeChain impresses with a one-sided closed shape, which visually ensures more tidiness. "Its one-piece construction with hidden bolt-hole connection also creates a harmonious image from the side," explains Kira Weller, product manager for e-chains at Igus. "Thanks to the proven Easy design, the cables can be easily pushed into the chain and thus hidden."

Major order for American office furniture manufacturer

The development of the OfficeChain began in 2019 with discussions between Igus USA and a renowned global office furniture manufacturer. The company was looking for a strong and attractive solution for its height-adjustable desks. Initial samples from Igus were convincing and led to good progress. The COVID-19 pandemic slowed down the project due to uncertainty about the future of office space. The office furniture manufacturer temporarily suspended the development process. However, Igus continued with the project and presented a refined concept at the end of 2022 that delighted the office furniture manufacturer.

Over the past two and a half years, several design iterations have been carried out to optimize the size, strength and aesthetics of the chain and to test its functionality with the customer's cables inside. The final version of the OfficeChain has brackets at both ends, which are either screwed or attached with special rubber-coated magnets to ensure additional grip on the work surface. "The OfficeChain OCO.32.37.0 is a real innovation for height-adjustable desks. It not only offers a functional solution, but also integrates perfectly aesthetically into modern office environments," says Kira Weller.
