Security by design – automatically locked

Securely position moving parts in places where humans can no longer reach – or where intervention is simply not desired. Kipp offers a new pneumatic locking pin specifically designed for use in automated processes. The K2202/K2203/K2204 series combine robust mechanics with an intelligent sensor setup, creating a sophisticated interface between machine and control system.

Reliably locked – without manual intervention

Kipp's new locking pin operates pneumatically. This means that the locking pin extends or retracts in a controlled manner when compressed air is supplied. Depending on the model, the mechanical lock remains engaged even in the event of a pressure loss. This is relevant wherever safety and reproducibility are essential: for example, in positioning or format changeover tasks in mechanical engineering, robotics, or handling technology.

The pneumatic version is a sensible solution when manual intervention is not possible – for example, due to accessibility, cycle time, or process automation. A particular advantage: The locking bolt can be integrated into all common control systems (e.g., via PLC), opening up a wide range of applications without the need for an additional operator interface.

Monitoring with sensors – and within the process

A special feature is the integrated condition monitoring: The locking status can be electronically detected via a magnetic field sensor (K2203). Furthermore, the sensor's position can be adjusted axially. This enables flexible integration into a wide variety of system layouts. The sensor is IP67 protected, and the 2 m PUR connection cable adapts to even challenging installation situations.

Technically precise

The bolts are made of stainless steel, and the pins are hardened and ground – robust enough for demanding industrial environments. Available in single-acting (Form A/B) or double-acting (Form C) versions, the locking bolts operate at a pressure of 4 to 6 bar. Bolt diameters between 6 and 12 mm are available. The sensor (PNP NO, 10–30 V DC) achieves a switching frequency of up to 3000 Hz – ideal for dynamic applications with short cycle times.

Typical applications include:

  • in machine and plant engineering for locking swivel, lifting, and sliding tables;
  • in automation technology for fixing grippers or fixtures;
  • in packaging technology for repeatable locking during format changes; and
  • in conveyor technology for positioning workpiece carriers.

A well-designed system – modular in construction

In addition to the locking bolt (K2202), the series also includes the matching magnetic field sensor (K2203) and the sensor holder with T-slot (K2204) – designed for common round cylinders. Everything comes together to form a system that is clearly designed for integration.
