For all crane applications

The tasks performed by cranes require special drives: loads must be picked up safely, positioned precisely and set down gently. And this also applies to overlapping travels of the crane and trolley. Nord Drivesystems has the right drive solutions for this.

For all crane types and load ranges - from construction cranes to bridge cranes to floating cranes - Nord offers perfectly matched drive components from a single source: gear units, industrial gear units, electric motors and drive electronics. The optimal drive solution for a wide range of crane application requirements can be configured from the flexible Nord modular system. All operate energy-efficiently, with positioning accuracy, and are easy to service and maintain.

Maxxdrive industrial gear units

With output torques of up to 282,000 Nm, Maxxdrive industrial gear units are suitable for large hoists with heavy loads. "In combination with frequency inverters and motors, our industrial gear units from the Maxxdrive modular system form a powerful drive system that combines power and intelligence," emphasizes Jörg Niermann, Head of Marketing at Nord. The Maxxdrive industrial gear unit series offers a wide range of individual options and industry-specific special solutions. For smaller hoists, the comprehensive Nord gearmotor portfolio with parallel shaft, bevel or helical gearmotors has the perfect drive solution ready.

Nord has also developed the Maxxdrive XD series specifically for hoist applications in cranes. Thanks to the increased center distance of the gear unit, hoist drives for crane applications can be dimensioned even more economically and with greater accuracy of fit. The installation space is used optimally, so that the weight of the drive can be reduced by up to 60 percent.

Particularly robust block housings

All Nord gear units are designed as particularly robust block housings, which pays off especially with heavy loads and under harsh environmental conditions. They are manufactured in a single clamping operation, which is why all bearing seats are manufactured with high precision and exactly level with each other. This reduces the susceptibility to faults and increases the service life of a gear unit. The integration of the bearing positions in an undivided housing block also means that there are no sealing surfaces subject to torque and lateral forces.

Other heavy-duty applications

Nord also offers high-performance, reliable drive systems for other heavy-duty applications, such as hoists, traversing units and lifting tables used in material handling of metals or paper as well as container storage systems.

For interested parties, the industry experts at Nord Drivesystems develop customized drive solutions for cranes, depending on their individual requirements. They provide competent support in design, commissioning and service.
