Modular multi-axis servo system creates free space
The MDD 2000 drive series from SIGMATEK is a modular and highly compact multi-axis servo system. When high flexibility is also required, the servo system has the edge in many applications.
The DIAS Drives MDD 2000 are designed for dynamic multi-axis applications that are often found in series machine construction. When developing the drives, SIGMATEK took into account that many machine builders want to bring the power electronics close to the motor in order to reduce the amount of wiring required. The more compact the drives are, the easier it is to integrate them decentrally into the machine.
Drive system grows with the machine configuration
For the market launch, the DIAS drives of the MDD 2000 series are available in two sizes. The height and depth of the modules are identical, only the width varies. Size 1 measures a compact 75 mm in width, 240 mm in height and 219 mm in depth and offers 3x 5A rated current and 15A peak current. Size 2 is twice as wide at 150 mm and provides 3x 10A rated current and 30A peak current.
These combined supply/axis modules can be used as a stand-alone compact drive or expanded with any MDD-2000 axis modules to form a multi-axis system. This solution is particularly beneficial for applications where continuous power is not always available on all three axes, such as 3- or 6-axis robots. A backplane was deliberately omitted from the design, which eliminates the need for optional axes.
In expansion stages with options, additional axes can be added depending on the customer's requirements - and all this via plug-and-play. The overload factor can reach up to 300 percent. Short controller cycle times of 62.5 µs give the DIAS Drives MDD 2000 excellent servo performance.
"With the MDD 2000 servo system, the customer benefits from the compactness in combination with the flexibility of extensions and encoder types as well as the many integrated safety functions and easy handling."
Modular expansion with connecting blocks
The machine builder can choose between 1, 2 and 3 axis modules in different performance classes or sizes. All modules can be connected quickly and without tools using the DCB "DC Connection Block" and BCB "Bus Connection Block". The time needed for wiring power, DC link coupling and real-time Ethernet separately is no longer necessary. This speeds up installation and wiring.
Many standard safety functions
In addition to the Safe Torque Off (STO) and Safe Stop 1 (SS1) stop functions, the MDD 2000 series has Safe Operating Stop (SOS), the Safe Brake Control (SBC) brake function and the Safely-Limited Speed (SLS) function as standard - for applications up to SIL 3, PL e, Cat. 4.
Quick starter
The digital motor feedback interface Hiperface DSL is used as a standard encoder, which saves wiring and time during commissioning. A universal interface for different encoder variants is optionally available: resolver, EnDat 2.1, Hiperface, Sin/Cos, TTL or BiSS-C. An integrated auto-tuning function and ready-made motion software modules simplify the initial startup.
