With the GA500 frequency inverters, Yaskawa proves how versatile and convenient inverters can be today. The compact devices cover power ratings up to 30 kW in three sizes, are suitable for asynchronous, permanent magnet or synchronous reluctance motors and can be commissioned within a few minutes.

Now high-speed applications can also benefit from these features, as the output frequency range of 590 Hz can be extended to up to 2,000 Hz if required, e.g. for spindle drives in metal or woodworking or centrifuges.

Machine builders now have even more freedom in the design. For example, there is now a new device variant of the GA500 without heat sink (finless) and fan, which is suitable for mounting on special heat sinks, water coolers or any other heat sinks. These can be mechanical parts of the machine, depending on the size of the inverter, or heat sinks for special applications, such as textile machines, where lint and dust can affect the cooling of standard inverters. A GA500 Finless with the right heat sink solves this problem and prevents machine downtime and production loss.

Inverters with a heat sink can be mounted outside the control cabinet if required. This shifts 80 % of the power loss out of the control cabinet. This enables smaller control cabinets, less cabinet cooling or more units in the same cabinet. With reduced airflow in the enclosure, dust contamination is also reduced and maintenance intervals are longer.

Robust and easy to operate

The robust inverter design with coated PCBs enables continuous operation at ambient temperatures of up to 50 °C without power reduction (derating). At the same time, integrated machine condition monitoring functions and intelligent lifetime prediction prevent unexpected production downtime. With the integrated STO function, the safety requirements according to SIL3 or Ple are also fulfilled.

Additional sensors can be supplied via a 24 V interface, e.g. for pressure or temperature. The inverters can be controlled via all common fieldbus systems. With a fieldbus interface card in only one
up to five GA500 frequency inverters can be networked, which significantly reduces costs and minimises wiring effort. An intuitive keypad, easy navigation and an interactive wizard reduce set-up time to just a few minutes.

With DriveWorksEZ for PC and DriveWizard Mobile for smartphones, there is also a powerful programming tool with symbol-based graphic interface, predefined function blocks and numerous logic functions. The electrical connection is also practical. Mains and motor cables can be connected without removing covers. Spring-loaded control terminals ensure simple, durable connections; screws do not need to be retightened. An EMC filter is integrated, which guarantees compliance with global standards and also reduces the number of components in the control cabinet.
