The new IE5+ motor generation from Nord Drivesystems guarantees highest efficiency as well as operational safety thanks to IE5+ technology. It combines the advantages of the modular system with the possibilities of variant reduction and contributes significantly to reducing the total cost of ownership (TCO).
The Nord IE5+ motor is available from NORD in three variants: as an unventilated smooth motor, as a ventilated motor with cooling fins and as an integrated motor in the new patented NORD DuoDrive.
Nord Drivesystems has designed the new IE5+ motor generation with a particular focus on use in the intralogistics sector and the beverage and food industries. The particularly compact and energy-efficient synchronous motors offer consistently high efficiency over a wide torque range and thus have optimum energy consumption performance even in partial load and partial speed ranges.
The enormous savings potential is clearly demonstrated in a direct comparison between a conventional IE3 asynchronous motor (0.75 kW, 83 % motor efficiency, helical bevel gearbox) and a corresponding IE5+ synchronous motor (0.75 kW, 93 % motor efficiency, helical bevel gearbox). At 16 operating hours per day (4,000 p.a.), this results in energy savings of about 400 kWh per year. With a CO2 emission factor of 366 g/kWh, this corresponds to about 0.15 t CO2 per year per drive.
If one assumes that often more than 2,000 drives can be installed in a plant, this results in a CO2 savings potential of about 300 t CO2 per year. Thanks to the optimized power density, the compact IE5+ motor can also achieve space savings of up to 40% compared to conventional asynchronous motors. This means that a more powerful motor with higher energy efficiency can be installed in the same space.
Targeted reduction of variants
The constant torque over a wide speed range enables targeted variant reduction. This minimizes administrative costs and streamlines production, logistics, storage and service processes. The investment pays for itself within a short time. Taking advantage of the high overload capacity of the motors and the large adjustment range of the system, the solution is individually tailored to each customer and specifically designed for the individual load spectrum of the plant. In addition to variant reduction and higher energy efficiency, the fact that these motors are small, compact, pluggable and configurable via plug and play also comes into play when using IE5+ technology.
Ventilated and fanless design
The IE5+ synchronous motors, with motor efficiencies up to 95%, are available in vented or smooth designs up to 4.0 kW with continuous torque from 1.6 to 18.2 Nm and speeds from 0 to 2,100 min-1. The smooth, hygiene-friendly design of the fanless variant is particularly easy to clean, corrosion-resistant as well as wash-down capable, making it ideal for use in hygiene-sensitive environments such as the pharmaceutical and food industries. Modular, scalable motor design
Motor mounting can be direct to all Nord gearboxes and to NEMA or IEC. Both NEMA C-face flange mounting and IEC B14 and IEC B5 flange mounting are available. An integrated encoder is standard equipment, and a mechanical brake is integrated as an option. The IE5+ synchronous motors can be combined modularly with all gearboxes and drive electronics from Nord Drivesystems. This creates a system solution from a single source in which all parts are seamlessly matched.
