Making aluminum more resistant and durable

Nord Drivesystems has launched the latest generation of its surface finishing process, NXD. The system manufacturer offers two versions of its aluminum drive solutions with effective surface protection. This makes them even more resistant to extreme environmental influences and maintains their performance longer, even under demanding operating conditions.

NXD is Nord's surface finishing process for aluminum gearboxes, smooth-bore motors, and frequency converters. It offers users a cost-effective and effective alternative for surface protection of drive solutions that are subject to severe environmental stress. With NXD, the company increases the longevity of these drive systems and thus extends system availability. The surfaces are chromate- and PFAS-free.

Two versions for precisely tailored, effective protection

At NXD, aluminum surfaces are galvanized, making them particularly corrosion-resistant and durable. The latest generation of surface finishing is available in two versions. NXD BASIC® consists of a galvanically produced base layer, which is supplemented by a paint layer. Corrosion protection is maintained even if the paint is damaged. This variant is suitable for use under demanding environmental conditions, such as offshore applications.

The second variant is the food-grade NXD tupH. The galvanized base layer is sealed with a sealer. This process prevents flaking and microcracks susceptible to germs.

Food-grade drive systems with NXD tupH

NXD tupH offers reliable surface protection, especially for the extreme conditions of wash-down applications. Drive solutions are thus resistant to acids and alkalis from regular cleaning and disinfection processes. Since the sealing of the galvanized base layer prevents particles from being detached even if the surface is damaged, NXD tupH surfaces are also hygienic and can therefore also be used in hygiene-critical industries.

NXD tupH is food-grade compliant according to FDA and EU Regulation 1935/2004. This means that components with this special surface finish can be used in virtually all major markets worldwide for processing hygiene-sensitive products.
Aluminum offers numerous advantages

With NXD, Nord is harnessing the advantages of aluminum for demanding environments and hygiene-sensitive production areas. Aluminum is lightweight, cost-effective, and fully recyclable. Aluminum housings also offer better thermal conductivity, which reduces their maximum surface temperature.

NXD is available for all Nord aluminum drive components, including the DuoDrive integrated gearmotor system, the energy-efficient IE5+ smooth-bore motors, and Nordbloc.1 helical and bevel gearboxes. The Nordac ON Pure, a decentralized frequency inverter with the NXD tupH finish, will also soon be available. This enables the solution provider to supply complete drive systems with food-compliant surface finishing from a single source.
