Making industrial automation future-proof

Moxa announces the launch of its next-generation industrial Ethernet switches, the EDS-4000/G4000 series. The EDS-4000/G4000 Series includes 68 models that will help Moxa customers build future-proof industrial networks to strengthen operational resilience in industries such as power, transportation, marine and industrial automation.

According to IDC's Worldwide IT/OT Convergence 2022 Predictions report1, 75% of new operational applications deployed at the edge by 2024 will make use of containerization
to enable a more open and composable architecture required for stable operations. As industrial automation applications, OT architectures also require improved networking capabilities and more network security.

"Recently, we have observed that it is becoming increasingly difficult for our customers to connect their devices while meeting a variety of critical infrastructure requirements,' said Gary Chang, product manager at Moxa Networking Co. Ltd. "Critical infrastructures require advanced networking solutions to strengthen operational resilience and create future-proof networks. With our portfolio of EDS-4000/G4000 series switches, we are translating the evolved networking concept into concrete networking functions so that our customers can easily build secure, reliable and broadband industrial networks."

Evolved networking solutions to strengthen operational resilience

As the convergence of operational and information technologies (OT/IT) accelerates, enhanced network security, high performance, high reliability and advanced ease of use are increasingly important for building next-generation industry networks that strengthen operational resilience.

Industry-leading network security

The EDS-4000/G4000 series was the world's first IEC 62443-4-2 certified Ethernet switch to be certified by the IECEE due to its built-in reinforced security, which was developed in compliance with the rigorous software development cycle described in the standard. With its extensive portfolio of network security solutions, Moxa helps provide a secure foundation for networks that protect and future-proof industrial operations.

Unmatched performance for mass deploymentAs the number of networked devices in industrial operations grows exponentially, the EDS-4000/G4000 Series offers multiple interface combinations with up to 14 ports and a range of options including Fast Ethernet, Gigabit, 2.5GbE uplinks, SFP and IEEE 802.3bt PoE connectivity. This enables customers to network more devices, especially in applications such as intelligent transportation systems that require high performance and wide bandwidth.

Numerous industrial certifications

The EDS-4000/G4000 series is certified for NEMA TS2, EN 50121-4, IEC 61850-3/IEEE 16132, DNV2 and ATEX Zone 23, Class I Division 23, meeting the requirements of a wide range of industrial applications. The EDS-4000/G4000 series is also equipped with Turbo Ring and Turbo Chain features that enable fast network recovery and ensure smooth operation.

Enhanced ease of use

The enhanced Web graphical interface provides users with a more intuitive way to perform configuration and network management tasks. The rotating power supply module provides field technicians with flexibility when installing equipment and maintaining the network. In addition, LED indicators on two sides of the unit help
help technicians see the status of network devices, making their jobs easier.

Testimonial from a customer

"We particularly appreciate the intuitive user interface, the innovative mechanical design with the rotatable power supply module and the robust DIN rail mounting kit. The EDS-4000/G4000 series gives us greater confidence that we can provide future-proof, robust and secure industrial automation and navigation solutions to our customers on their digital transformation journey," says Christian M. Skytte, Head of Product Management, Automation, at Wärtsilä Lyngsø Marine A/S.
